Questa è la scena finale di Loveless (Нелюбовь), film del regista russo Andrey Zvyagintsev, premiato a Cannes nel 2017. È una scena durissima, che dice molto più di quanto sembri. Una coppia guarda la televisione con totale distacco emotivo. Sullo schermo scorrono le notizie della propaganda del Cremlino: “nazisti ucraini”, “vittime del Donbas”, e tutto il repertorio di menzogne costruito per giustificare l’aggressione russa. Ma il punto non è solo la propaganda. Il punto è il vuoto. Zvyagintsev mostra una società anestetizzata, zombificata, incapace di provare empatia, senso di colpa, responsabilità. Una società materialista, senza etica, senza morale, senza compassione. Una società che ha perso il contatto con la verità e con l’umanità. Nel film, madre e padre inseguono i propri piaceri, le proprie ambizioni, la propria vita comoda. Il figlio dodicenne diventa un peso. Un ostacolo. Qualcosa di cui liberarsi emotivamente prima ancora che fisicamente. Quel bambino scappa da una casa senza amore. E verrà ritrovato morto. Questa è la metafora più terribile: quando una società smette di amare, smette anche di vedere. Non vede più i figli. Non vede più le vittime. Non vede più i crimini. Non vede più la verità. È la Russia che accetta, passiva e inebetita, i crimini del proprio Stato. Ma è anche l’Italia di chi, dopo anni di guerra e anni di invasione russa, continua a ripetere la propaganda del Cremlino: “i nazisti ucraini”, “la NATO guerrafondaia”, “Zelensky provocatore”, “la CIA”, “l’Europa bellicista”, “gli ucraini mandati a morire”. Cambiano i canali, ma il meccanismo è lo stesso. Non serve Russia 1: bastano certi talk show, certi opinionisti, certi post sui social. E tutti lì ad ascoltare, a ripetere, a giustificare. Ci sono quelli che dicono: “Siamo con l’Ucraina, però Zelensky è un guerrafondaio”. Oppure: “Siamo cristiani, dobbiamo dire no alle armi”. No. Non è pacifismo. È indifferenza mascherata da morale. Perché se un popolo viene aggredito, deportato, bombardato, stuprato, massacrato, e tu gli neghi il diritto di difendersi, non stai scegliendo la pace. Stai scegliendo la resa della vittima. E lo fai perché aiutare l’Ucraina costa. Pesa. Comporta rischi. Disturba la tua comodità. Proprio come in Loveless, dove il figlio è un peso che minaccia la vita materiale dei genitori. Questa è la tragedia dei falsi pacifisti: credono di essere morali, ma in realtà hanno solo paura di perdere il proprio benessere. Parlano di pace, ma non sentono il dolore degli altri. Parlano di cristianesimo, ma ignorano l’ingiustizia. Parlano di equilibrio, ma finiscono per assolvere l’aggressore. Dopo tutti questi anni di guerra, chi ancora rifiuta di aiutare l’Ucraina non lo fa per amore della pace. Lo fa perché, in fondo, ha accettato almeno una parte della narrazione di Putin. E se davanti a un popolo aggredito, deportato, bombardato e massacrato la vostra unica preoccupazione è non essere disturbati, allora non siete pacifisti, non siete cristiani. Siete solo spettatori comodi del dolore altrui. Come la coppia di Loveless, guardate la tragedia sullo schermo senza sentire nulla. Finché non vi riguarda, finché non entra nella vostra casa, finché non tocca il vostro letto caldo e la vostra vita ordinata, potete ignorarla. Ma il prezzo dell’indifferenza arriva sempre. E quando vi sveglierete, forse vi accorgerete che ciò che avete lasciato morire non era solo l’Ucraina. Era la vostra coscienza.

Curiously, the narrative appeared across multiple voices at roughly the same time. This is a war against our culture, memory, and identity. For centuries, Moscow has tried to destroy everything that makes us Ukrainian. This is genocide. We are documenting each of these crimes for future tribunals. Our memory cannot be burned away by missiles. We will rebuild everything. My deepest condolences to the families of those killed.
