@kenbwork Good post but mentioning complex techniques aas “you just do a perturb-Seq” seems to me a bit dismissive of the complexity each techniques involved. Beside their cost. There is a hidden cost of complexity I.e. how much trial/error and experience it takes to ace the experiment

One of the most satisfying ways to use Claude is to ask for help troubleshooting something, explain in detail what the problem is, figure out the solution and delete the prompt. Zero tokens!

Most benchmarks for drug discovery AI don't effectively evaluate generative models; instead, due to the data's incompleteness, they rely on surrogate functions, like fwd folding, property prediction, or ranking previously characterized designs. No idea what the solution is here

Opinions on the best disorder predictors in 202*? Using PONDR and DisEMBL makes me feel old 😬 Hey I love them, but they are from 20 years ago! #IDP #disorderedprotrins

We are pleased to share a paper from our lab out in this week’s issue of @Nature, where we show that HT + ML can dramatically speed up the synbio DBTL cycles, profiling gene circuit design spaces at unprecedented scale: nature.com/articles/s4158… (1/16)

For those of you who aren't aware, cancelling Harvard's F and J visas does not just affect students. It also affects many, many postdoctoral researchers. And critically, it affects OPT holders. These are graduates who stayed here to work in the US, they cannot "transfer"

@JessicaSacher We have either a space for laptops or an old computer at each bench. Just enough to use OneNote and with internet access. It works for me, but might not for everyone.

@gchies1 Ah good point. I actually would love ppl’s tips on electronic lab notebooks as I haven’t been able to figure out a good system for keeping them up to date in real time (do people just have their laptop at the bench..?)

@JessicaSacher Very real! I also found slacking yourself (or telegram or other IM with the option of self-posting) helps, especially for those with electronic lab books.

7/ Main takeaway: A perfect empty notebook helps no one. Your future self (and PI) would rather have messy-but-real notes than blank pages. Make systems that force you to write in real time. /end #AcademicTwitter #LabLife #PhDChat

🚨Preprint alert! Excited to share the latest work of my PhD on bioRxiv. STRAIGHT-IN Dual allows the generation of homogenous genetically-modified hiPSC populations 1) in one week, 2) with ~100% efficiency, 3) in a markerless, near-scarless approach and 4) with two payloads!🧵⬇️
Katie Galloway@GallowayLabMIT

So you want to engineer your hiPSCs, but targeting DNA payloads requires multiple slow, inefficient steps for each construct. What if we could accomplish multi-site integration seamlessly? 🚨Introducing STRAIGHT-IN Dual! 🧵 (1/n) Link: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
