Just to add my two cents: These people's visceral reaction is not so much about fairness or even feminism. What they're really uncomfortable with is the Torah being an applicable source of authority and power. In their secular mind the Torah is about fuzzy ideas and being a good person. Not real binding authority. They accept custody battles and civil litigation as legitimate forms of leverage because those come from secular systems. But when leverage comes specifically from halacha, the very existence of that power is intolerable to them. Their real argument is not that this is unfair or abusive, because they have zero problem with the unfairness of custody laws, their real argument is that the torah should not have real world practical applicable power at all.
