Every time these conversations start we go in circles, but two things can be true: 1) It is harder financially to get ahead than it was for previous generations 2) Many young people have insane issues with overconsumption and it's become so normalized they don't even realize

@deeplore5 @DReynolds5294 I disagree that the economy is doing poorly in general. It isn’t doing as well as it could, especially if the idiotic Iran war hadn’t happened, but all in all it’s still pretty robust, and I say that as someone who actually employs people in revenue-generating businesses.

A third grader? This is what I ate for lunch as a lab researcher after I finished grad school making plenty of money. (Turkey slices cost way more, tho) You are not a sales executive on an expense account. You do not get to have a “power lunch” at a sit down restaurant every day

@deeplore5 @DReynolds5294 Diminished from when? Because unless you were on an expense account, spending that on lunch was never anywhere near the norm. For my parent generation eating in a sit-down restaurant was a handful of occasions a year event, if that, and McDonald's was maybe a dozen times.
