The Italian Embassy in Bangkok appears to have pulled the plug on its comment sections after thousands of Thai users flooded its Facebook page over the viral BTS confrontation involving a group of Italian students. The embassy’s top post has now drawn more than 11,000 angry reactions, while several other posts were overwhelmed with complaints before comments were disabled across the page. There was just one apparent oversight: comments remained open on the embassy’s profile picture, giving the backlash somewhere new to land. And the outrage is now travelling beyond Bangkok. Thai users have begun leaving messages on Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s social media account. The embassy may have closed the comments, but the tide of Thai Facebook anger appears determined to find another shore.
