@Judith54Nunn @AngusTaylorMP Tbf Judith both major parties are complicit in this debacle. Not sure how you can blame just one party. Morrison did buy a significant amount of oil for storage in the USA when the price was low only for the current government to sell it.

@AngusTaylorMP Your mob closed our Refineries and you sent our fuel to the USA to be stored! And yet you have the nerve to try and blame Labor. Seriously get in the bin

Labor has been asleep at the wheel. Now, after drifting through a national crisis, they’re scrambling to convene National Cabinet to try and clean up the mess. Meanwhile, the Ampol refinery in Brisbane is producing fuel right here in Australia… but Labor’s emissions obsession is forcing it offshore. We’re exporting our own energy security while Australians can’t get the fuel they need.

@craigkellyAFEE Wait until they find out farmers can claim all their fuel costs as a deduction on income. They will go nuts.

@farmercate2 @larissawaters If their conviction was so strong they could close city fuel stations, I would then support free public transport. But wait in a few months when they complain about high food costs. They will want another enquiry.

Making public transport free, for as long as this crisis goes on for, must be on the table at National Cabinet today. This would be immediate cost-of-living relief, and take the pressure off fuel supplies. Billionaires took us to war, and the rest of us are paying for it.

@TMFScottP BTW he is right about Andrew Wilcox. Marty is a fellow farmer who is ok about higher sulphur content in diesel. But Marty doesn't realise modern diesel engines will suffer engine failure as high sulphur diesel will clog up injectors and cause the dpf to choke. Not a solution.

@TMFScottP @i8ahorse2 The problem lies with poor government policy and decisions. Privatisation has allowed our wholesalers to also be retailers. Our electricity system is a huge clusterfuk. All good in hindsight but who is capable of fixing it? I'm not confident.

Bloody hell... here we go again. More corporate welfare on the taxpayers' dime. Fuel will cost more, as a result. No, not at the pump, but the pump price *plus* the portion of your taxes that prop these places up.

@TMFScottP Similar to our coal and gas power stations. We give them subsidies to stay beyond their use by date to deal with intermittency created by renewable energy that have been subsidised. Only to then give rebates to consumers so to afford their electricity bills. Madness.

Scotland has become the first country in the world to make tampons, sanitary pads, and other period products completely free for anyone who needs them. Under the law, schools, colleges, and public facilities must provide these essentials at no cost, helping ensure that no one has to struggle to access basic hygiene products. A huge step forward for health, dignity, and equality , and many hope more countries will follow Scotland’s lead.

@TMFScottP If the government hadn't provided the NDIS, Childcare and renewables with subsidies over the last decade, there would have been several surpluses and the cost of living would be under control. But here we are.

A bit of straight talk: If the government had a Budget surplus today (and it should), people would scream blue murder that it wasn't being used to 'provide cost of living relief', given 'how tough people are doing it'. Thing is, a surplus would be the best way for them to help.

@R_o_d_C A tax rebate for diesel used in primary industry is not a subsidy. It is a rebate for money already spent. Wait until you find out 100% of all the fuel paid is written off as an expense to industry. You might want to throw a tantrum at your convenience.

The latest on Australians vs fossil fuel subsidies. $11.6 billion to help disabled Aussies is a “ballooning” cost that must be “reined in”. $10.8 billion tax break to give foreign mining companies cheap diesel “not the time” to cut. Pretty gross. Links below.

@matt_barrie @7NewsAustralia So it should be. City folk need to leave the fuel for regional towns. We are empty. The government should make public transport free as an option.
