On #WorldRedCrossRedCrescent Day, we honour the Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and staff who show up every day for people in crisis. They are not separate from the communities they serve, they are part of them. Because beyond every emergency, every response, and every emblem, there is one truth: we are *United in Humanity*.

Heavy rainfall swept across large areas of Afghanistan, triggering devastating flash floods and landslides that swept away homes and critical infrastructure. Afghan Red Crescent (@ARCSAfghanistan) responded immediately with comprehensive emergency operations, including search and rescue efforts, emergency shelter provision, cash assistance to affected families and primary healthcare. @IFRC provided crucial support through a Disaster Response Emergency Fund (@IFRC_DREF) allocation of CHF 500,000 to strengthen response operations. @HosamFaysal, Head of IFRC Delegation, Afghanistan.

“The humanitarian situation in Iran is absolutely desperate… the level of suffering in the country is immense,” said @scottcraig, Senior Media Offier, IFRC Despite disrupted supply lines and communication blackouts, the @IFRC is bringing trauma kits, medical supplies, and essential aid to Iran. Severe monsoon floods continue across Southern Thailand. @ThaiRedCross has distributed relief kits, cooked meals and drinking water. High-clearance trucks & flat-bottom boats have been deployed to assist affected communities. The @IFRC stands ready to support.

The @MyanmarRedCross, @IFRC, and partners meet with earthquake-affected communities to listen, learn, and ensure support reaches those who need it most. During cash distribution activities, teams also connected with Red Cross staff and volunteers, whose dedication continues to drive the response. ❤️‍🩹

After the earthquake in Kunar, @ARCSAfghanistan female CBHFA (Community-Based Health and First Aid) volunteers stepped up to support affected families. Sharifa, a trainer, mother, and trusted community member provided Psychological First Aid and hygiene promotion in Dewagal village. Because she shares the same language and culture, women welcomed her with trust and openness. Her story shows the power of locally led humanitarian action. Support that comes from within the community itself.

As #COP30 kicks off today, I reaffirm that the climate crisis remains a strategic priority for the @IFRC and urged world leaders to “HIT the ground running.” The @IFRC is calling for urgent action in three key areas: - Health and wellbeing - Investment in people and communities - Timing to get ahead of disasters The climate crisis is the top global challenge facing humanity and the planet. This @IFRC report on institutionalizing anticipatory action comes at a critical moment, as the global community faces escalating climate and weather-related risks, increasingly complex and cascading risks, and as governments and humanitarian actors seek more effective, efficient and dignified ways to protect lives and livelihoods in this evolving humanitarian landscape. To make anticipatory action a reality at scale, we must begin by putting people at the centre. Early warning systems must be followed by early action. This report is both a call to action and a practical resource.
