As we get closer to 2026 (and 2028), we’re probably going to see a lot more of this from Democrats. While it can be tempting to believe their views may finally be changing, people should keep in mind that this is almost certainly just empty lies to make themselves appear more moderate for the elections. As long as these Democrats are all talk and no action on trans issue, then people shouldn’t actually take them seriously. People should also vote for Dems like Newsom at your own risk. It’s highly likely that after the elections, (and especially if they actually win) they’ll just go back to supporting trans issues. So if you’re actually considering voting for a Democrat just because they admit trans in women’s sports is “unfair”, keep in mind, you may be falling for a trap.
Benjamin Ryan@benryanwriter

California Gov. Gavin Newsom says an interview with Shawn Ryan that he thinks the issue of gender-transition medical interventions hurt Democrats in the November election. He expresses reservations about medical transitions for younger minors in particular. He expresses ambivalence over the science backing gender-transition treatments for children, and airs his frustration over how contradictory the different factions are who weigh in on this scientific issue. "It is a major problem for the Democratic party," Newsom of trans issues.

@wesyang Iirc he also signed Utah’s initial policy effectively banning GAC for minors in January 2023 which makes me unsure if he was ever actually on board with the medical side of things

Governor Cox, who positioned himself as a trans-affirming Republican by vetoing a bill banning boys in girls sports in 2022 and giving his pronouns ("he/him") to a group of high school students, signs into law a permanent ban on chemically castrating and dosing confused children with steroids. His veto on boys in girls sports was overridden in 2022, and by 2023 he had educated himself on the pediatric gender medicine issue, coming to understand that the astroturfed pseudo-consensus in support of it among US medical lobbies had always been fraudulent. Moral and intellectual growth is possible, even for those who previously pandered to the Borg. Study his trajectory and do likewise.

🚨BREAKING: Utah Governor Spencer Cox has signed a bill that prohibits providing cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers to minors. The bill, HB 174, was strongly opposed by Utah progressives, including the ACLU of Utah, which unsuccessfully pleaded with Cox to veto the measure.

@MegEBrock This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think this one should be dismissed. Like, if the doctors are no longer the defendants and therefore can’t be punished then what’s the point? Suing the Trump DOJ (which is an ally to detrans people) won’t bring justice.

The Portuguese Parliament rejects gender ideology with 3 approvals: -PSD: revokes self-determination; reintroduces the requirement for medical evaluation (as it was in 2011) and prohibits name/gender change for minors under 18. -CDS-PP: prohibits puberty blockers and hormones for those under 18 years old. - Chega: repeals the current law and prohibits medical/surgical interventions on minors (except in cases of intersex variations).

@Ecgberht4 The AMA board hasn’t passed anything about this. Their statement on deferring surgeries was just as statement given to media outlets by an unnamed spokesperson. There’s no mention of it on their website. The AMA president hasn’t spoken about it either.

I've seen it reported all over the place that the AMA joined the ASPS on deferring, but the only actual source I've seen was a remark made by the AMA President (I believe) in response to a question in a Fox interview. I wouldn't be surprised if he never passed it by the board - he was just speaking personally

So-called ‘gender transition’ for minors has left real victims in its wake - children rushed into irreversible procedures without adequate protections or truly informed consent. Last night on @FoxNews, I discussed legislation I introduced in the House, the @ChloeCole Act, which would establish meaningful safeguards for minors and hold medical professionals accountable.

@itsdesign @visegrad24 @PartidoCHEGA They didn’t say the cause is right wing, they said the Chega party, which passed the bill, is right wing, which is true. Chega is right wing but that doesn’t mean people who aren’t can’t agree with the bill.

@visegrad24 @PartidoCHEGA Great! But how is preventing child mutilation a "right wing" cause? Fine with me, of course. But things have sure changed when saving kids from that is explicitly right wing, along with, like, gun rights... (?) I guess a vote for today's left is a vote for death or maiming.

I called The Trevor Project b/c that's what LGBT influencers told me to do. They were nice at first, but when I started talking about what was actually wrong, the hormones, the blockers, my depression, they got very quiet & then they hung up on me, a suicidal child @JonniSkinner

Searchlight is compromised. According to a 2025 article in Politico, its goal is to "push the Democratic Party toward the most effective, broadly popular positions regardless of which wing of the party they come from, with an eye toward 2028." politico.com/news/2025/06/0… But the author of this piece (and a senior fellow at the institute) is Mara Keisling, a man (“transgender woman”) who was an early advisor to the Human Rights Campaign’s Health Equality Index and founded the National Center for Transgender Equality in 2003. He was also very active in the fight to kill retired Representative Barney Frank’s (D-MA) signature bill the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which was meant to protect lesbians and gay men in employment, because Frank refused to include “gender identity” in its protections. I think this searchlight needs new batteries. @DIAGdemocrats @DIAGWashington

We just published a year's worth of polling on transgender rights and acceptance in America. Voters across both parties express a consistent preference for equal treatment of trans people in public life and the workplace. We also find broad support for protecting trans people from discrimination and for ensuring that adults have access to the health care they need. That said, Americans hold conservative attitudes where certain policies related to gender identity and trans rights are concerned. The findings reveal the need for a reset in trans advocacy, public education, and policy development. searchlightinstitute.org/research/the-p…

@SearchlightInst If this is “a year’s worth of polling” then why does it say it was conducted February 18-19, 2026? Where are the other such polls and which exact questions were asked in each poll?

@admcrlsn I’m surprised that the opposition to GAC for minors was higher than opposition to trans in women’s sports. Polls almost always show the latter as the most unpopular. There being a 13 point gap between support for hormonal interventions and surgeries for minors is also surprising.

Searchlight did an extraordinary job with this polling. This is not an easy issue to test, and this is an excellent resource for candidates and the public. I was deeply saddened by a lot of the results. But harsh truths are still truths. It’s critical to know where the American public is at on these things so we can figure out the best path forward on codifying protections on anti-discrimination/safety, persuading the public, and determining the most effective strategic path forward in advancing the cause of trans rights.
