STATEMENT BY @AngusTaylorMP Yesterday the Full Federal Court confirmed that Australian law does not properly protect single sex spaces for women and girls. Most Australians would find that hard to believe. A coalition government I lead will fix this. We will amend the Sex Discrimination Act to ensure that women and girls (and men and boys) have protections based on biological sex. We will define biological sex in the Act. Male or female. The sex you are born. And we will protect single-sex spaces across Australian life. This is not radical. It is common sense. Let me be clear about what this is not. This is not about targeting transgender Australians. Every protection they currently have remains. We are not removing a single protection from anyone. But we are recognising something that should never have been in doubt: biological sex is real, it matters, and women and girls deserve spaces where it is respected. This will be a first-term priority. The Prime Minister now has a simple question to answer. Does he believe women and girls deserve protections based on biological sex?

This Advance Australia post is exactly the problem. Advance Australia is on it. Pauline Hanson is on it. A transgender woman was discriminated against, and suddenly the political machine is pretending Australia has collapsed. Come on. We are talking about a tiny, marginalised group of people just trying to live their lives. Where is the great national emergency here? Women in Australia face real danger. Domestic violence. Intimate partner violence. Sexual assault. Coercive control. Harassment. The serious harm women face in this country is not being driven by transgender women. It is being driven by male violence. But that is a harder problem to face. So instead, the political machine finds a smaller, easier target and tells everyone to panic. That is not protecting women. That is scapegoating. This is how culture war works: find a rare, difficult case, strip out the human being, inflate it into a national emergency, then watch everyone fight. And of course, within five minutes, this gets dragged into the usual panic about toilets and public bathrooms. But honestly, if someone is spending their day wondering what is going on with the body of the person in the next toilet cubicle, I’m not sure they are defending women. I think they might just be the weirdest person in the bathroom. Debate the law if you want. But turning a tiny minority into a national punching bag is ugly politics. We can do better than this.

Thoughts? Will this bring any votes into their tent, or not? In my view it will not, but am interested to hear what you think. #auspol

@PaulineHansonOz So a father taking his kids for a stroll at a shopping centre has to wait outside for his 8 year old daughter while she goes to the ladies toilet only to see an adult man dressed up as a woman walk straight into the ladies toilet. How would any parent feel? Federal court 🤔🤔🤔.

One Nation’s candidate for Farrer has contradicted party policy on immigration during a debate, just one week out from the crucial by-election. One Nation wants to cap annual immigration at 130,000, less than half the current 306,000 arrivals. David Farley disagrees. #auspol
