The Supreme Court has taken a stern view of the hostage crisis in #Malda, where 7 judicial officers were trapped for over 7 hours. The Court termed the gherao a deliberate move to browbeat judicial officers and obstruct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. SC slammed the West Bengal government for its abdication of duty,questioning why senior officials failed to act despite prior warning. In a major move, the bench directed the @ECISVEEP to entrust the investigation to either the @CBIHeadquarters or @NIA_India to ensure an independent inquiry. Immediate orders were issued to deploy Central Forces for the protection of judicial officers and their residences across sensitive zones. “We will not allow anyone to take the law into their hands and create a psychological attack on the minds of judicial officers.” - CJI Surya Kant The Court has issued show-cause notices to the WB chief secretary, home secretary, and DGP. Next hearing on April 6, 2026.

I couldn't do more than that...
