High yield credit spreads have been trending higher since the beginning of 2026. Cracks in the economy are now starting to show up in the debt market. A rising spread regime is a headwind for stocks. S&P 500 $SPX deliver -3.6% annualized vs +16.2% when spreads are falling.

When bond yields start gaining upward momentum, equity returns tend to diminish. @granthawkridge
