New episode of uNILateral Decisions out now!  On the fifth episode of uNILateral Decisions we discuss the settlement that caused a seismic shift in college athletics and opened the floodgates for athletes to get paid through revenue sharing — House v. NCAA.

Let’s play a game… Count how many business buzzwords and clichés show up in a typical athletic department/third-party contract announcement. We’ll start with University of Cincinnati Athletics’s release today re: Playfly Sports: gobearcats.com/news/2026/03/1…

If you’ve seen a tweet in the last 24 hours about “Total Men’s Basketball Budgets” it’s likely wrong or taken out of context. OPERATIONAL BUDGET, not spent the most. Big difference. For proper context, read the article below from the elite,@MattBrownEP. extrapointsmb.com/p/here-s-what-…

I've been wondering this Mit - what do athletes have to gain in collective bargaining? Seems like they have everything they'd want outside the cap. This makes it sound like classroom/practice scheduling, health and wellness, and a seat at the table are the big ones. Anything else?

Many claim college athletes don’t want to or would never choose to unionize, either because they don’t want to be employees or b/c the current system is good for them financially. But as covered here, a CBA could address many important topics beyond $. frontofficesports.com/college-athlet…

Duke’s expenses were the second-highest in the country, with other No. 1 seeds Arizona ($16.3 million) and Michigan ($15.7 million) far behind. The Florida Gators ranked just 69th in the nation, spending only $9.9 million on their program. Take a look at how @NCAA tournament teams' are spending in both Men's and Women's programs. lol didn't @MiamiHurricanes poach a QB that they got sued for taking? The same people that want to make rules about tampering give their award to one of the highest profile tampering cases? Or is it they've changed their minds on tampering now? College athletics. Make it make sense.

It's always flashy to throw numbers out there and try to gain a following on hype. Harder to do the work to procure the actual data, clean it, analyze it, and present it to an audience. Maybe this is why it took me ten years to earn my PhD. Good work takes time.
Darren Heitner@heitner

@gregchickphd Thank you for actually working off real data points.

@heitner Darren it's not as exciting when you can only report on actual data that the schools report. -only publics have to disclose -it's a year behind -many publics still obfuscate access But some of us are trying to report the real data!

These are not real #NIL and revenue-sharing numbers (or estimates). The only data is in the hands of each athletic program. They dont share information with Conner Hale. Don’t believe everything you read.
Conner Hale@ConnerHaleSprts

Richest rosters in the 2026 NCAA Tournament 💰🏀 (estimated NIL + roster spend) #7 Kentucky — $20M #1 Duke — $12M #4 Arkansas — $11.5M #6 Louisville — $10.5M #4 Texas Tech — $10.5M #5 St. John’s — $10.5M #1 Michigan — $10.5M #4 Kansas — $9.5M #6 Tennessee — $9.5M #1 Arizona — $9.5M Money ≠ seeding 👀

I'm back with a new issue of @NILnomics! Looking at men's basketball and what makes the college sport so great... and interesting. I promise you'll find a unique analysis you can't find anywhere else this week. Link in the replies.
NILnomics@NILnomics

It’s March, which means brackets and buzzer beaters. But how much does it actually cost to compete in men’s college basketball? In the newest issue of NILnomics, I dug into NCAA financial reports to analyze who’s spending the most—and who’s turning resources into wins. 🏀📊
