It’s finally rolling out! Meet SongDNA, a very cool feature that lets you literally see the ”DNA” of a song and nerd out completely on it, you can see who wrote it, composed it, produced, mastered and engineered it, who performed on it, who covered it, who sampled it etc etc and then traverse any of those paths through the rest of the catalog. You can spend hours figuring how many steps any song actually is from Rick Rubin!

Spotify needs to release a “kids” setting so I can play all the songs my kids listen to without it affecting my own Discovery algorithm. Insane that I can’t do this already. My Discover Weekly is just nursery songs and Moana. @Spotify please fix this.

@danielcberk @Spotify Introduce an "incognito" toggle just below the fold. I promise I need this more than "Related Music Videos"

@danielcberk @Spotify Also, I always thought it would be great if all music platforms just had an “incognito mode” for music so you could try out new songs or songs people send you without messing up your algorithm.

@GustavS @danielcberk @Spotify While you’re here, is there a setting to turn off videos in accounts? I set up accounts for my three kids but their apps are just podcast video feeds and I only want them to listen

@GustavS @dr @danielcberk @Spotify I would like to turn off shows also. What's the point in screentime youtube restrictions if they can just get the same shows as podcasts in spotify. It's making me start to look at music only services at the moment.

@danielcberk @Spotify Yes, this is needed. And no, I don’t want to toggle or have a separate account. Also, if there’s a way to find the non-explicit versions of songs faster that would be appreciated! Like can I toggle this on and off? 🙏🏽

@GustavS @danielcberk @Spotify even being able to be logged in to multiple accounts and fast switch would be great for those on the family plan, with a child borrowing your device

Thanks for the feedback, agree with making controls easier for parents . In the mean time, it’s a little hidden to find for, but the private session should allow you to do this (ie having a session that ”doesn’t count” towards your taste profile at all, regardless of which features or playlists your use).

Thank you Gustav! These are viable workarounds, but the ability to toggle the entire account without going into the settings would be a huge gamechanger, particularly with how often we (parents) are switching back and forth between listening to our music and our kids' music. I'm sure you know. The playlist option only works if I know the songs I'm going to play in advance and have them all tidied up before hand, but usually I'm picking music (or my children are) in no real order. Thanks for responding! I'd love to advise on how to improve this (no charge, I just want it to be optimal for the millions of parents like me in the same boat) Let me know!

Union Square Ventures' @mignano says that when he was at Spotify, @GustavS had a famous saying: "Talk is cheap, so you should talk a lot." "And what he means by that is the cost of getting something wrong is actually way more expensive than the time it takes to talk, align, and earn the right to go invest, spend, or bet on something." "And what I've always loved about @USV is that they have a similar philosophy — they talk a lot. It's a small team, but they spend a lot of time together forming their point of view on the world. And I think that's what's given them the edge."

@GustavS Next: A way to completely remove a song from Spotify so that my son can't find it. If I hear this song again I'm going to crack.

This is for all the parents out there - video toggle on your own and your kids accounts! We’ve heard from many of you that Spotify is one of the few apps and places that you feel good about your kids spending time on, in fact, when we survey our users, they say that the time they spend on Spotify is some of the ”lowest regret time on the Internet”. We are of course very proud and happy about this and want to keep it that way. But a common request we’ve heard from both parents and users is that - as more and more music and podcasts today have video - they would like a way to turn that off - for themselves - or for their kids, and just have an audio mode. I’ve spoken recently about how Spotify wants to give back control to users over what and how they consume media, being able to affect their own algorithm and experience. So as part of that control we are now rolling out the ability to turn off video, for yourself and/or for your kids if you want to. This has already been possible for under 13 accounts, but it is now possible for any family plan master account, as well as for any individual user (free or paid).

Great! Maybe you find time (not that everyone has their hands off the keyboard) to ship something that lets Spotify Family admins control if their kids can access video content in an audio app or not. I want them to use Spotify and listen to music and audio books, not use it as a Trojan horse to watch Youtube Shorts. Talking to other parents I am clearly not alone. And yes, I have no shame dropping a feature request in this thread ;)
