Two men allegedly robbed the group of R108 000 in cash as members were leaving a house to buy groceries. According to Kgele Moreriani and Nhlanhla Mnyakeni, who were carrying the money, they had just left the house where contributions were collected and were about to enter a Bolt vehicle when two armed suspects approached them and demanded the bags containing the cash. Members initially suspected fellow member Constance Malungani, who joined the stokvel in July. Malungani said she was being accused because she took a photo of the money while it was being counted and sent it to a friend on WhatsApp. Some members believed this made her complicit.

Mother Ester Kunene is crying tears as all her money was stolen.Mother Kunene says she arrived in the town of Mkhondo to withdraw money and successfully withdrew her money at Boxer Supermarket. She then went to Family Store, where she took a trolley and wandered around the shop, picking up the items she needed. When she went to pay, she realized that her money, amounting to R6000, was no longer there.
