Solana's Alpenglow upgrade includes a component called Rotor, a redesigned block propagation layer that replaces Turbine with a one-hop broadcast model and erasure coding. The Anza team targets block finality around 150ms median, with some estimates as fast as 100ms under ideal conditions. That's remarkable for a global L1.
Here's where it gets interesting for @get_optimum. Muriel Médard was publicly quoted in The Defiant specifically criticizing Rotor's propagation design. Her argument: the aspects of propagation that Rotor handles are the parts a protocol generally cannot fully control. That's not a generic critique. That's the inventor of RLNC pointing at the exact component of a major competitor's upgrade and identifying where she believes the architecture falls short.
Anza was reached for comment on Médard's concerns but had not responded by press time.
The technical distinction matters. Rotor replaces the Turbine tree structure with a one-hop broadcast model using erasure coding to handle node failures and missed data. RLNC's recoding property allows any intermediate node to generate new coded shards from a partial set and forward them immediately. Rotor's erasure coding is static by comparison. Under packet loss or adversarial conditions, the behavioral difference between the two approaches compounds.
Alpenglow is not competition for Optimum. It's a validation of the problem space, with a propagation design Optimum's founder has directly challenged in public. That's an unusually clear competitive signal.

Earlier today, I went to the market to repair my laptop. While I was at the shop, I got a notification that it was my teleop session, so I quickly logged in on my phone and started teleoperating. I didn’t even realize someone was standing behind me watching. After I finished, he came up and said what I was doing looked interesting and asked me to explain it. Since I had some time while my laptop was being fixed, I broke down what @PrismaXai is all about. The guy got really interested and excited about what’s being built. He asked for the links, signed up immediately, and even took my number said he wants to subscribe to a teleop plan when he gets home so we can talk more (he was in a bit of a hurry at the time). Tip of the day: Don’t feel shy or nervous about teleoperating anywhere. You never know who’s watching or who might be interested.
