@WEschenbach @RoKhanna @RashidaTlaib How many Israeli civilians have been killed by Hezbollah since the “ceasefire”? How many Lebanese civilians? Israel is not “defending itself” any longer, it is extracting bloody vengeance on a civilian population.

@RoKhanna @RashidaTlaib You said nothing when Hezbollah fired FIVE THOUSAND ROCKETS at innocent Israeli citizens, but now you have your manties in a twist because Israel is defending itself? Really? That makes sense to you? You are sick AF. w.

I support @RashidaTlaib War Powers Resolution to stop any US involvement in the war in Lebanon. 2,896 Lebanese have been killed, and Israel is striking even Beirut. 1.2 million have been displaced. We need a vote next week.

@icarus62 RCP 8.5 represents accelerated use of coal and other fossil fuels. The world is not doing that, so either you are wrong in stating we are tracking 8.5 or the modelling is useless, or both.

In the real world: 1: Emissions are nearly following the worst case scenario, RCP8.5. 2: The rate of global warming doubled since 2010. 3: The rate of ocean warming doubled since 2005. 4: The rate of sea level rise doubled since 2011. Things are getting worse, not better.

My contribution to the solar/farm discourse is that solar panels capture about 100x as much usable energy from the sun as corn grown for ethanol, if you include the energy cost of growing corn. Ethanol corn is 40% of all US corn and is literally just there to capture energy from the sun. We have a way of doing that much more efficiently now!

@ret_ward @reformparty_uk If heat pump dryers are better and cheaper there is absolutely no need to ban conventional dryers. Let the market decide. The reality is though that heat pump dryers take twice as long to dry clothes and consumers are willing to pay a bit more running costs for the convenience.

@Electroversenet Lovelock was correct in large parts of his Gaia hypothesis. The Earth is a self-regulating system. Like ocean surface warming>increasing CO2>more marine algae>more DMS>Sulphate particles>atmospheric cooling.

For years we were told thawing permafrost would unleash a methane bomb. But new pan-arctic research dismantles those fears. Across Canada, Greenland, Siberia and Alaska, scientists found methane-eating microbes dominating methane-producing ones. This means that even under thaw conditions, the Arctic can act as a methane sink, not a source. Other studies echo the same result. Natural microbial competition suppresses methane, not amplifies it. The latest data all point one way. Runaway methane was just another overhyped climate scare. Nature has it covered.

"There are moments in history that will define a generation. And I think we're in one of those moments” @Keir_Starmer tells me on @BBCr4today comparing the crisis caused by the Iran war with the 08 crash, Brexit & COVID. He argues that we cannot go back to the status quo & must get closer to the EU economically & to Europe more broadly to bolster our defence. He says the economy will needs to change so that it works for young people wherever they live in the country. This feels like a leader who knows renewed calls on him to quit are just days away trying to answer the clamour for him to set out his vision of the future. Top tip. Rent a big flat in Chelsea now. Wait for rent controls and inflation to make your payments effectively peppercorn. Illegally sublet the flat at market rate. Retire to the country. Tried and tested all over the world. Can't lose!

🚨Rush to buy tumble dryers after Miliband’s net zero ban Imminent law changes will see traditional tumble dryers phased out for Net Zero. Perhaps Mad Miliband should visit a 14th floor flat where a family of 4 do washing on a regular basis. Would he like to live in a place with several airers of damp washing, which damage children's health? Screw the Net Zero con. Screw this Miliband prick.

Some corporate giants will make a fortune from Trump’s war while ordinary people get hit again. They should not be allowed to make a single penny in super-profits from this crisis. Let's expand the Windfall Tax to any firm doing so - and use the money to cut household bills.

@Artemisfornow Horizontal panels at 50 degrees north latitude lose 20% of power potential compared to south tilted. From October to March these would be just decoration, producing virtually no power, and not even good to look at.

Brilliant! Mad Ed is launching a consultation (at tax payers cost) to make it easier to build floating solar power plants, following a report that hailed their potential as a clean energy source by an er … energy investor! (Obvs) Apparently if we cover 33,000 hectares of lakes and reservoirs in solar panels we could power millions of homes. Sod the wildlife, the eco systems and natural landscapes. We have to destroy the planet in order to save (monetise) the planet LOL 🤡

@MichaelAArouet 70% of new "no work requirement" decisions are for "mental health" reasons amongst those aged 35+. The main mental health problem appears to be chronic laziness, and the willingness of doctors to sign off malingerers.

This is simply unreal. No wonder the UK is heading into a debt crisis. The UK doesn’t need higher taxes, you need pro-business policies to stop entrepreneurs leaving and get people working again instead of living on welfare without work requirements. What needs to happen?

You’re the energy secretary. Yet you don’t seem to know that BP’s ‘excess profits’ come from its global oil trading division, which is not subject to UK ‘excess profits’ windfall tax, not from its North Sea activities, which are. Remarkable.
Ed Miliband@Ed_Miliband

It would be completely wrong for a Government to stand by and allow companies to make excess profits from a war. That’s why we’re taxing these windfall profits to help with the cost of living. And why the Tories, Reform and the SNP are utterly wrong to oppose the windfall tax.

Europe needs to study the WWII and see who was there for them when Germany was conquering them. I think our issue right now is that most people who were alive during WWII are dead or dying, the new generation has no idea what USA has done for this world. The missing link is education specifically history.

@BuckCllr Most of the world’s polysilicon, the basis of solar panels, is made in Xinjiang, China, where forced labour of the Uighur minority is the norm. We should not be using these panels, but anti-modern slavery protection is a joke.

TRIGGER WARNING: Solar providing more energy to the grid in the UK than burning fossil fuels. YES Solar on its own, not including wind. Renewables work and the great thing is, we discovered battery technology, so it can be stored for ‘when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow (FUI the wind ALWAYS blows somewhere in the UK)!
