@bikebremerton @VietQNguyen Reducing modern Bellevue to "wealthy suburb" is simply inaccurate. Kirkland is a wealthy suburb. Bellevue is a satellite, sure, but it's a city in its own right.

@VietQNguyen Some of this is cogent argument- homeless and crime. Some is standard ‘big city vs wealthy suburb’ stuff. But budget criticism is either ignorant or dishonest. Seattle owns a large public utility: massive damns and transmission wires, which accounts for 40% of the budget.

Seattle vs. Bellevue: 20 years of data, side by side I pulled the numbers and the gap is wider than I expected. Both cities grew about the same (Seattle +40%, Bellevue +34%). But the outcomes diverged hard. Budget (ex-municipal utilities, real per-capita, 2026 dollars): • Seattle: $5,997 → $8,677 per resident (+45%) • Bellevue: $5,741 → $4,653 per resident (−19%) • Seattle now spends 1.9x more per resident than Bellevue on essentially the same menu of city services Crime (per 100,000, 2025 estimates): • Violent crime: Seattle ~542, Bellevue ~99 (5.5x gap) • Property crime: Seattle ~4,100, Bellevue ~2,200 (1.9x gap) Homelessness (King County PIT count): • 2006: ~7,900 • 2024: 16,868 (+113%) • Seattle absorbs nearly all of the visible unsheltered population. Bellevue, same county, does not. Schools (4-year graduation rate, 2024): • Seattle Public Schools: 88% • Bellevue School District: 94%, ranked #1 in Washington • SPS has lost 4,000+ students since 2019. Families with options are leaving. Median household income (2023, inflation-adjusted): • Seattle: $121,984 • Bellevue: $161,300 (+32%) Life expectancy: • East King County (Bellevue area): 84.2 years • King County overall: 81.2 years • Seattle Downtown/Belltown/First Hill: 71.6 years • 15+ year gap within the same county Where Seattle still wins: • Parks system, ranked #8 in the U.S. by Trust for Public Land • Transit (more buses, light rail, walkability) • Cultural amenities Bottom line: Seattle spends nearly twice as much per resident as Bellevue and gets worse outcomes on schools, safety, homelessness, and life expectancy. Some of that is because Bellevue is wealthier and less burdened with regional problems. But not all of it. The dollars-to-outcomes gap is the real story, and Seattle’s defenders have a hard time explaining it away.

@AvoidPerception @Ad_Crucem @matt_e_cochran > He does not command men to induce such respect. No, He commands them to love "as Christ loved the Church, giving Himself up for her," and to "nourish and cherish" their wives as their own body. Women: Submit. Men: Die. Call for repentance, and extend grace upon grace.

@Ad_Crucem @matt_e_cochran God commands women to respect their husbands. He does not command men to induce such respect. God commands men to love their wives. He does not command women to induce such love. If you infer corollary instructions, don’t stop here; tell women to earn their husbands’ love.

"Yes, God tells wives to submit to their husbands, but submission needs to be voluntary!" Imagine standing before God at the Judgment and explaining that your disobedience is fine because you know He wanted it to be voluntary and you didn't volunteer. Good luck with that.

@WmWeedon @DrJordanBCooper @manofsteeele It's not that we pretend there's not. It's that one faction says practical diversity doesn't matter, and one faction says all diversity must squashed in the name of "purity" and "unity," and those two sides constantly talk past each other to rally their respective troops.

The big what ifs of American Lutheranism: What if Walther had been humble enough to actually listen to Krauth? What if the General Council and Synodical Conference had found their way to each other? What if LCMS hadn’t been so darned high handed with the Synodical Conference?

@TheDonStein I don't believe anime-watching nerd and sports bro are mutually exclusive categories. I want a pastor who will watch a ballgame while talking about the moral arc of Vinland Saga's Thorfinn. My demands are small.

A fake quote, sure, but a true sentiment. Now for something truly spicy: the church would benefit from less nerds entering ministry and more quarterbacks and linebackers.

@WmWeedon No man may CHOOSE to celebrate, as no man should preach or administer the Sacrament except he be regularly called. If he is called by a gathered assembly in said residence, MAYBE, but you'd have to ask about the examination of greater fellowship and appointment to the role.

@Wanderer071189 @ZELLKLUMPEN The woman in Texas died of severe preeclampsia at 20 weeks after she could not get a "life of the mother" abortion that would've normally been recommended. Forcing a delivery by that stage would functionally be an abortion

@TheNicholasWolf It's not a horrible bad idea to play with in the GFFA, given the profiteering in the EU Empire (Sienar), the banking clan's alliance with the Separatists, or what was later explored in Andor with Mon Mothma. The problem is that Canto Bight is neither creative nor interesting.

The casino scene is a microcosm of what didn’t work about The Last Jedi and why I remain unconvinced that Rian Johnson has ever watched a Star Wars movie. The whole “le bad 1%” meme is thematically absent from the broader series (including the rest of the Sequel Trilogy) in any meaningful sense, and to just hamfistedly drop it into the middle of the movie pulls the audience out of the setting with the subtlety of yanking out a tooth.
SHAWN | 60 CENT@ShawnNOrlando

Anyone who says "the casino scene was a waste of time", I assume they drink battery fluid. The point of the casino scene is to illustrate the 1% rich elites that profit and benefit from the war with no stakes in who is involved. Finn realizes that all of it is useless

@JCalebJones @mattleeanderson Scripture explicitly numbers 10 "utterances" (דָּבָר, dabar) spoken by God, which is traditionally rendered English "commandments." The first utterance : I am the Lord Your God & c. is the premise from which the subsequent actual Commandments flow.

@mattleeanderson Okay. Let me give you a reason. The chiastic structure that you described is built around the idea of there only being 9 commandments, but the Bible explicitly describes them as 10 commandments.

My latest theological hot take: there are only nine commandments in Exodus 20, not ten, and they form a nearly-perfect chiasm.

@WmWeedon @siehaybay The BOC is far too big, complex and context-specific to serve as a symbol in any practical way. Only historical theologians can bear to read it. That's why the Brief Statement was developed.

If you think that later theological documents of the LCMS are equal to the Symbols, you are holding a quite unLutheran position. Period. The end. Repent. The Symbols are the Symbols, and we don’t need any new ones.

I wouldn’t call them evil. The Emperor kept his space wizardry a secret. As far as the average imperial officer knew, he was serving the legitimate successor government to the Old Republic. A man of Veers’s age and rank no doubt fought in the Clone Wars. Just a competent man doing his job. Plus Disney had to throw away the old EU because the Empire was the good guys. When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy, the New Republic sure could have used a planet destroying super weapon.
🕯𝕮𝖍𝖗𝖎𝖘𝖙𝖔𝖕𝖍𝖊𝖗 𝕸𝖎𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖊𝖑🕯Author@Chris_M_Author

So, I'm rewatching the old SW trilogy the other day, and it comes to me just how much of a joke Didney made of the franchise. The guy pictured is General Veeres, and he's extremely competent! Darth Vader orders him to prepare for ground assault. He did it, decimated the rebel Hoth infantry, sent them in full retreat, blew up the power generators, dropoed the Imperial forces on site, and paved the way for Vader's landing party. The empire actually had competent people who (for movie purposes) only went retarded when our protagonists were involved. Yes, the stormtroopers suck at shooting in a few scenes, but it has far more to do with classic "plot armor" than skill because they go absolutely ham on other rebel troops. Disney took the concept and made it into an even bigger running gag with beta incel officers. The officers in the old series were hard-nosed and evil.

@OliLondonTV FYI 12 million dollars is not that rich at all in today's economy. That buys you a house, a car, pays the bills and sets you up nice for retirement. Certainty doesn't guarantee your children generational wealth or afford you 5 star hotels and first class flights....
