🆕 A new report by the @CommonsBTC shows that small businesses are facing a range of 'pandemic-level' pressures. ✅ At our event today to mark the launch of the report, we asked Committee chair, @liambyrnemp, what the Government can do to support small firms 👇

Ditto @RishiSunak At the time of crisis for the small biz owner & freelancer, the rookie Chancer unfathomably decided to exclude 3,000,000 (@NAO) from C-19 support schemes. Put simply: the so-called 'backbone of the Econ' were abandoned. #ExcludedUK @spectator @Prosper_UK_

‘One of Reeves’s meetings described as a “round table with small businesses” included BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce, HSBC and Google. As another City source observes: “Only the largest companies are factored into [Reeves’s] thinking.”’ Subscribe to read more.

🚨 It looks like the UK government is gearing up to upend copyright law in favour of AI companies, legalising the theft of their work. This is despite creatives' huge protests, and despite previous proposals being roundly rejected by the public. There are rumours it is considering introducing a 'commercial research exception' for AI training. This would be disastrous. It would mean handing the life's work of British creatives to AI companies for free, to train their models on. In the House of Lords today, a government minister refused to rule this out. To be clear, this would amount to legalising theft. It would fly in the face of public opinion on what is fair, and would mean a surrender of British creatives' work by this Labour government. It would mean the lobbying by big US tech firms had succeeded, and the protests of the UK's creatives had been ignored. People's work is not the government's to give away. If you're in the UK and you care about creatives and the creative industries, please write to your MP!

In the overwhelming majority of Conservative seats lost in 2024, the largest persuadable group isn’t Reform voters. It’s those who moved left or switched off. The route back runs through the centre ground.

A reminder through the faux smiles .. This guy intentionally abandoned over 3,000,000 UK tax payers, by excluding them from C-19 support. @NAOorguk An unfathomable and callous policy decision still being felt today. @RishiSunak @anmurty @StephenLiddell_ @covidinquiryuk

I know @aliciakearns doesn’t like me as a self employed business in Oakham brining outside currency to local businesses but why does she hate the 3.8million other #Excluded people including people in her constituency?

I think that if you’re going to write a piece in the Times urging the government to use and boost more AI, the fact that you are paid by a major AI company should be in the first sentence, or at least first paragraph. I also think that the best scenario for AI is that it destroys millions of jobs with the prosperity, dignity and community that goes with them. The worst scenario is the destruction of the human race - a fear openly expressed by an increasing number of senior and experienced AI engineers who are leaving the industry. And somewhere in between a myriad of horrors such as yet more screen learning and screen addiction for our children. But I do see that it will make rich men even richer. And that’s the most important thing of course.

Chief Secretary @jamesmurray_ldn James Murray MP, your “diary constraints” refusal to meet the Gaps in Covid-19 Financial Support APPG, the APPG Secretariat, #ExcludedUK, and bereaved families is simply not good enough. You acknowledge profound harm, yet you will not sit down with the people living it. An Inquiry is not a substitute for ministerial accountability. “Diary constraints” is a brush off, not an answer. You recognise the profound impact, you recognise bereaved families, you recognise people feel they were not adequately supported. Then you decline to meet the very people carrying that pain every day. An Inquiry cannot be used as a holding response while lives, livelihoods, and families remain shattered. This is not a diary problem, it is a leadership problem. Your diary is not full forever. Sharpen your pencil and offer meeting dates. We are ready. Are you? #ExcludedUK #Covid19FinancialSupport #Accountability #Justice #APPGGapsSupport

Your stalwart support @PaulKohlerSW19 meant so much. Your recognition that the exclusion was a serious policy failure, and your call to now address its legacy of debt and distress, gives all the #ExcludedUK including in #Wimbledon hope for accountability and justice. @ExcludedUK

THE POST OFFICE SCANDAL HAS SO MANY SIMILARITIES... AND BOTH CONCLUDE WITH "THE COMPUTER SAYS "NO"!!" We want to shout this loud and clear, #ExcludedUK stands with the sub postmasters. Our campaigns are both about injustice, scandal even, both about being accused of being fraudsters, and both about real humans who did not bring this on themselves and were powerless to do anything!! Two national injustices. Two groups failed by systems that should have protected them. One message in common: people were harmed because a computer was treated as infallible. * Both groups were told the system was correct. * Both were told the data could not be wrong. * Both were left to carry the consequences. The Post Office Horizon scandal affected around 4,400 people, including at least 4 confirmed suicides. The Covid 19 financial support gaps affected 3.8 million people, including more than 40 suicides within ExcludedUK membership. It took around 12 years for the Post Office to gain meaningful APPG attention. It took around 12 weeks for the Gaps in Support APPG to form, reaching 262 MPs and peers at its peak. ExcludedUK continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with the sub postmasters. Justice for one injustice strengthens the case for justice in the other. The computer says no. The people say enough.
