The Dutch started the trade in the 1500's but were overtaken by the British who carefully documented everything. Colonial Blue Books and economic commissions from the 1910s and 1920s explicitly tracked these remittances, sometimes hundreds of thousands of pounds leaving the colonies in a single year. Understand that the British numbered one to hundreds or thousands of these laborers and lacked tight direct oversight. European settlers and later African leaders complained that the system created parallel economies that benefited the newcomers far more than the host societies. Where every facet of the societies were replaced by the imported labor until finally there were riots that could not be contained and they were removed from each country. This is not ancient conspiracy. These are the actual government reports of the time. Fast forward to today. We import large numbers of workers on temporary visas that somehow become permanent pipelines. Where they only hire themselves and would be embarrassed not to. Many operate in tight networks, send substantial remittances overseas, and the result is the same: American wages suppressed. American workers displaced. Capital flowing out. Blue collar replaced by illegal labor. White collar replaced by H-1B. All while politicians on both sides stay silent or actively defend the system while they profit. The pattern is not new. It is repeating. And it does not end well for the original population of the country. A hundred years had to pass before it was started up again while people act surprised. We have seen it in Africa, the islands, and British territories worldwide. We are living it here now. This has gone on for over 400 years and nothing changes except the inability to learn from history something our founders knew all too well. Temporary labor programs that never stay temporary always lead to the same outcome: Replacement and resentment.
