IMPORTANT: Dear @nitin_gadkari ji and @pinarayivijayan ji: great to see a major national highway like NH 66 being constructed as a 6 lane along the west coast right through Kerala.. BUT the under construction highway is a MAJOR road safety hazard. Vehicles are coming from wrong side, there is construction rubble strewn around, no clear dividers or signs . We need a crack highway police to monitor traffic and ensure construction safety protocols are followed . We had a near collision yesterday with a car coming from the wrong side. 23 lives have been lost in the Kerala stretch in the last decade as per an LS answer. This is true of highway safety in other parts of the country too. Highways are a big step forward in connectivity but they can’t be allowed to become death traps because of lax traffic management norms. (Note: roughly 5–5.5 lakh people have died on India’s national highways alone over the past decade) 🙏 #HighwaySafety
