Some people seem to think of the Israeli Palestinian conflict as a chess game, arguing about who moved first and what is “legal”. But it’s not. The most basic thing Israelis and Palestinians have in common is that they are human, with beliefs, emotions, instincts and fears.

Just look at what ISRAEL has built to keep Palestinians out! 7 layers of border wall, and they’ll shoot anyone who tries to cross. … Oh wait. This isn’t Israel. This is EGYPT. This is the Egypt-Gaza border. But if we say “Israel,” maybe you’ll care.

People who dislike Israel should not conflate it with American Jews -just as people should not conflate the PRC with Chinese Americans or ISIS with American Muslims. And (not but) synagogues should not say "We stand with Israel" because it encourages that conflation. It makes congregants less safe but, more importantly, given what Israel is doing, it's morally indefensible. I will never tolerate this scene. I will never accept it as collateral damage or a normal result of war. The images and footage coming from Iran of children and civilians covered in the dust of bombings, school bags stained with blood, feel like a flashback to what people in Gaza have been forced to live and witness for the past two and a half years. No one should live with the constant thought that they could be the next target. No child should walk to school carrying the weight of war. No family should know this kind of pain, the kind that stays long after the bombs fall.. the kind we know too well
