@ContractorCalc The cognitive dissonance here where Ministers rely on "professional advice" for their defence when caught out, whilst they simultaneously allow @HMRCgovuk to bludgeon innocent people caught up in #LoanChargeScandal, when they also took professional advice, is galling to see.

Also, logic dictates that if accountants didn't do anything wrong at the time then neither did their clients yet their clients are the only ones being hounded for retro tax

This is correct. A spokesman for the ICAEW told me this (the LCAG report) isn't something they will be commenting on.
