NEW: The European Commission "clarified" comments by Ursula von der Leyen about Türkiye:
Türkiye’s mention was a recognition of its geopolitical clout, size and ambitions not least in the Western Balkans, and not meant as a comparison with any other country.
The EU unquestionably sees Türkiye as “an important partner… economically and politically,” especially in connectivity and migration.
It is also “an important NATO ally and EU candidate country,” making it a key partner for dialogue.

Siempre lo ha sido… lo que pasa es que en otros tiempo la conciencia era otra y mientras Francia se aliaba contra los Hausburgo con los turcos, en Viena había un español, Juan I, que les paró los pues; y después otro español, Felipe II, les enfrió los humos en Lepanto.
Pero los alemanes, con trauma por la paliza que dio origen al croasan, en el siglo XIX se hicieron muy amigos de los turcos, y después de la IIGM los importaron a expuestas, y ya para rematar hace unos años los recibían con guirnaldas de flores…

Ethnic Turks don't, but many people living in Türkiye do have roots in the Middle East. You can barely tell apart a Turk from a Syrian, but put a Turk next to a Kazakh and it's immediately clear who is who.
And the Islamic union, the Ottoman Caliphate, DID WORK. For centuries, it kept vast swaths of land and over 50 distinct nations in harmony and peace across 3 continents. It is the current separation that's clearly not working.

US Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack: The question on S-400s… For those of you who don’t know, Türkiye, after the coup, bought a Russian defense system. There was a variance in opinion—were we not willing to sell them Patriots, or could they not buy Patriots, but they bought an S-400 system. At the time, Türkiye was also the second-largest NATO ally. This is huge. When you think of what that means and what Türkiye is doing to protect Europe, it’s incredible. They wanted to contribute to the F-35 jet program and, as a matter of fact, were a partner in manufacturing fuselages. When they bought the S-400, Congress then imposed sanctions. Sanctions… in my humble opinion… they don’t work. The sanctioned country becomes so smart, so ingenious, they figure out ways around them. They went off the F-35 system. President Trump and President Erdogan… sat down. Halkbank is now fine. F-16s — renegotiating again. The alliance… is being rebuilt. I think you’re going to see this S-400 situation solved soon. From my boss’s point of view, acceptance into an F-35 program is fine. Greece has S-300s and F-35s. So, that the the Greece-Türkiye issue is you know, another historic issue. I won't even attempt to get there because they'll they'll forbid me to ever go to Mykonos again.

In a recent speech, @EU_Commission Pres. @vonderleyen portrayed 🇹🇷 as influenting Europe along with 🇷🇺🇨🇳. It's totally inconsistent with recurrent signals for stronger cooperation on security & defense and it is a geopolitically flawed analysis.
