If my child was in an inner city school that holds them back to let others keep pace I would home school tomorrow. Where do you draw the line? Why not feeding and medical care as well?

Buddy, American public school districts routinely churn out hordes of students that cannot do basic algebra or reading by 12th grade. The typical student actually gains *zero* mathematical knowledge after 8th grade. Schools are already failing.

Right, if homeschooling is actually super high quality, then homeschooling families should not object to being evaluated, tested, and checked-in-on to make sure their kids are actually learning.

@613spades @CoreyWriting no one is disagreeing with the fact that US public schools often fail their students, but the solution to that is not throwing all of them out into the homeschool system where there are even fewer set standards for achievement.

@613spades @CoreyWriting that page acknowledges quite plainly that demographics (ie is the parent doing the teaching an english phd or a fry cook, do they have responsibilities outside of teaching, etc) have an impact in the data, and that the data therefore does not prove that homeschool is better 🤷🏾♂️

@613spades @CoreyWriting again, selection bias. many states do not require homeschooled students to take state aptitude tests, making participation elective. if its elective, only parents who know their children will perform well make them take the test. the data is only accurate for high achievers 🤷🏾♂️

@613spades @CoreyWriting its not an assumption. homeschooled students are less than 2% of total SAT takers. i dont doubt that having a tailored curriculum from an effective teacher in your own home helps many students, but only a minority home schooled students are actually getting that.
