Yesterday, I was proud to announce the next step to increasing access to student housing in Edmonton through the $15-million Downtown Student Housing Incentive, part of the Housing Accelerator Fund Action Plan. Post-secondary institutions are expanding in downtown Edmonton, drawing thousands of students into the core. Currently, Edmonton’s downtown is home to over 47,000 students. Through the Downtown Student Housing Incentive, we will help create an estimated 500 new rentals designed for students and offered at prices they can afford, close to campus and near amenities such as libraries and transit. On behalf of the @CityofEdmonton, I’d like to thank the Federal Government and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation for their help in supporting this incentive through the Housing Accelerator Fund. This funding continues to have a profound impact on housing supply in Edmonton, and we look forward to implementing more aspects of our Housing Accelerator Fund Action Plan in the future. Thank you to @NorQuest @UAlberta and @bildedmonton for celebrating this important step to create more housing for Edmonton's students.
