@TiltingatM3 Some people give ancient pantheons the same omniscience/omnipotence that is afforded to the Abrahamic god, but that's simply not the case. The gods are powerful but can bleed, and are subject to the whims of fate and also often to natural/physical laws as well.

No, Homer believes in a fate so powerful that even the gods don't risk meddling with it. When his son Sarpedon is about to fight Patroclus, Zeus is moved with pity and considers snatching him out of the battle to set him down alive in Lycia, but Hera reminds him that the doomed boy's fate is already sealed, and Zeus cries tears of blood.

Homer is the original Great Man Theorist of history. He’s not telling you the Trojans lost the war because of climate change. He’s telling you the tale of Hector, Odysseus, and Achilles.

@Critical_Scribe The issue is if he was clumsy with it, and it wasn't heavy, he would likely have killed or maimed himself pretty quickly.

My issue with the “weight” of the dark saber in this scene is that it just doesn’t make any sense. It’s a weapon made of light, it’s not gonna be heavy. However, the intent behind the scene is good. Showing Din being clumsy with it and untrained adds a good level of believability to the scene, and sets up for future growth. I just think the weightlessness of the weapon should be the thing that throws him off, like he over swings a lot and either hits himself (like in the scene but more often) or produces openings that get exploited. It’s a shame that this never turns into anything >.>

i loved how heavy the lightsaber was here and how he struggles with it as someone with no formal training then i looked in thr replies and apparently star wars fans think that was a mistake

@YKBmessiah Losing a fair fight is dignified. You chose to step in there, you fought for your life, and you happened to not win. Honorable, courageous, heroic.

🔴 ALREADY FREE: Disgraced former Waco Attorney Adam Hoffman was released from jail before the completion of his 60 day sentence for good behavior. So, yes, he served only a portion of his 60-day sentence for s**ually abusing a child. His trial on first-degree felony charges ended in a mistrial after jurors deadlocked 7-5 in favor of finding him guilty. Ken Paxton’s office then reduced the charges in exchange for his guilty pleas. 🎥 STORY: kwtx.com/2026/05/25/for…

On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who gave their lives for this country that we love. It is a debt we can never fully repay, but we must never stop trying. I’ll always be grateful to our fallen heroes and their families, whose sacrifice reminds us of what it means to live for something greater than ourselves.

@BobWhencer @thatchthoughts @robot_slug "You will know. When you are calm, at peace. Passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack" The only intervention required is with the other Force users, and he specifically must not kill them or he will become an agent of evil himself.

@how2fixtv @thatchthoughts @robot_slug Yoda himself shows no concern that pacifism and non-intervention are necessary parts of the ideology. Rather, emotional control. And active opposition, rather than passive hopefulness.

I unironically agree. The Last Jedi is a brilliant film. To be fair, Holdo was poorly written and dragged down its overall quality a bit. But it works as an earnest interrogation of mythology, and it temporarily broke Rey out of being a Mary Sue, allowing her to make catastrophic choices. It’s technically brilliant with striking red motifs and action choreography. The Last Jedi is a flawed masterpiece. And we will never see a Star Wars movie this ambitious or original again.

Fun fact. Bees can be green. Xylocopa viridis, the green carpenter bee, is non-aggressive and semi-solitary. They do not build hives like honeybees but instead prefer to live inside dead wood.

@BobWhencer @thatchthoughts @robot_slug If he went up there and killed Vader, he would've become a Sith. He is not trained to kill. Obi-wan as a ghost instructs him to confront, face, and even destroy Vader, and that's what we see at the end. He destroys "Vader" by putting down his weapon and chosing not to kill.

@how2fixtv @thatchthoughts @robot_slug He has to go there and confront Vader. He literally has to intervene. And both Yoda and Obi-Wan are concerned with his ability to defeat them. They did not instruct him to intervene, but train him to kill. As seen by the whole thing about the battle.

@BobWhencer @thatchthoughts @robot_slug The instructions are consistent. Unless he is fully trained in the force, he will fail. He fails his initial test because he cuts down the vision of Vader with his lightsaber. Killing Vader is failing to follow the teachings of the Jedi.

@iniemohk I've worked in the US and in China, and I've visited North Korea. Labor is genuinely exactly the same in all 3 locations. You show up, you complete your assigned task, you can play games to advance your position or you can play games to do less actual work.

Im pretty sure North Korea is a paradise where no one suffers and or dies but not because of Juche or socialism or anything i think they have a "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" thing going on but instead of a kid they just give the chimp in the Pyongyang zoo a cig every day

@Theguywith1t @J0hnADouglas @planefag They have to walk back to their starting position and bow every time after getting absolutely whalloped, and if they don't look conscious enough it's considered disrespectful and they'll get hazed by the team.

so @J0hnADouglas is absolutely right about sumo wrestlers being human beings too but this is also an important point, the usual strategy of "hit them really hard as they close" is more difficult when you're trying to stop an Indiana Jones rolling boulder trap with a punch
How2Fix@how2fixtv

@J0hnADouglas @planefag Sumo wrestlers tank a full speed headbutt in like half of their matches, and they get 15 matches every 2 months. This is not counting training and the constant palm strikes they take to the head. They can fake being conscious really well.
