Anybody else have a notes app filled with random lyrics that you write thinking it'd be great and witty and heartfelt, but then when you read them months later you cringe so hard you turn inside out? Gonna start sharing some of the choice ones

Public sector design — time for a reset - Richard Pope “User needs, as a guiding principle was, it turned out, poorly suited to situations where the needs of government and the public were at odds” richardpope.org/blog/2024/07/0…

@cathy_dutton This is where the bizarre clash of user stories come hit "as a user I want to authenticate..." And so on

Struggled with this form day 1, there was never a user need to buy a fishing license, besides complying with rules we set.

100% — I started going to meetups when I was 19 and nearly every professional opportunity I had came from the community. Internships, jobs, speaking opportunities, collaborations. When we didn’t have a CSS (then Sass) meetup in my city, I started one. That’s how I began speaking and running workshops (when we needed to fill a speaking slot). I was able to identify people I wanted to learn from, places I wanted to work, and tech that interested me. Highly recommend getting involved in your local community!

For some of you, this will be the most career impactful five and a half minute video of your week. Stop what you're doing and watch.

Excitement is a better motivator than discipline. The people who appear to have an exceptional work ethic or remarkable discipline are often those with a genuine curiosity or interest in that area. The person who smiles is more likely to keep working than the person gritting their teeth.

Tough to support that handsome Southgate with his 1 change policy. If he keeps the same shape… what’s the definition of madness? Or the very must misquoted version 👀

A historical day for CSS 😀🎉 If you write any components used and/or styled by others, you know how huge this is! background: if(style(--variant: success), var(--green)); Even if you don’t, this will allow things like: padding: if(var(--2xl), 1em, var(--xl) or var(--m), .5em); GitHub issue: github.com/w3c/csswg-draf…

I’m in the middle of a design/UX audit. It’s for a large internal case working system with lots of issues, big and small. Some to do with flow. Some to do with layout. Some to do with content. Some to do with accessibility. All sorts. Here’s 3 things I’ve noticed: (1) Many issues are repeated across huge parts of the system. (2) Some of the solutions I have in mind would solve multiple problems in one go. (3) For many of the issues, it would be far quicker to just fix them rather than documenting them, explaining them, getting them prioritised etc
