We used to have an extreme climate scenario that gave huge, scary, and unrealistic results (RCP8.5) It has now finally been laid to rest New CMIP7 scenarios expect much lower emissions through the 21st century Great read from @RogerPielkeJr rogerpielkejr.substack.com/p/rcp85-is-off…

@CitizenAmedia @MichaelGreenspa @wil_da_beast630 @Gimblin Exactly. Remember how the president of the United States had to be evacuated to an underground bunker due to the "mostly peaceful" riots? Or how rioters blocked the exit to Federal building in Portland after setting fire with people inside? Dems seem to have forgotten.

Sean W. Malone | That’s just, like, your opinion.
It certainly does, in the sense that you ignored attacks "on our national government", but more to the point, I simply disagree. In fact, I think your argument is fundamentally backward. The J6 Riot had *zero* chance of changing the outcome of the election or really threatening our democracy in any way. Its costs were very little in comparison (a few million and one protester shot/killed vs. $2-3 billion and dozens of innocent people killed, thousands of cops injured, etc.) and it has been the sole focus of media and politicians for 5 years now... While even at the time our media ran cover for BLM riots, and politicians bent themselves into knots trying to placate BLM demands, including defunding and demoralizing police - which had the main effect of making poor black neighborhoods far less safe (so much so, sociologists referred to it as the "George Floyd Effect"). Seems like that's quite a bit worse, on net.

Janaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnuary 6th, The Darkest Day of All Time, was in reality far less serious than the 750+ BLM riots. These weren't small affairs, far from big cities and the halls of power. Rioters set up a city state ("CHAZ") in the literal Capitol District of Seattle. An ex-mutual of mine became an Armalite toting warlord. 7 (?) people died there. Rioters sacked the Mag Mile in Chicago, and fought feds for 120 days in Portland. AN ACTIVE POLICE STATION WAS BURNED DOWN, after a medieval street battle, in Minneapolis. 35 people died; $2B in damage was done. All this would be presented as - per trained AI - 5-30x J6 were the parties reversed. Just a reminder.

This week, DePaul University is moving from merely woke to academic insomnia. The university is teaming up with former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to double down on advocacy journalism with the “Institute for Journalism and Racial Justice.” jonathanturley.org/2026/04/30/dep…

The Supreme Court just turned its back on one of the most sacred promises in American democracy—the promise that every voice counts. My statement on the Supreme Court's decision dealing a devastating blow to the Voting Rights Act:

Voter suppression is a way of life for Donald Trump and far right extremists on the Supreme Court. Republicans know they cannot win a free and fair election in November and so they are desperate to rig it. We will never let them succeed.

Barack Obama
Barack Obama@BarackObama·
Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

Foreign aid is a scam. But you can at least say it’s a form of ‘soft power’ that gives the USA leverage. But importing foreigners and then bankrolling their entire lives - while millions of Americans are one health crisis away from bankruptcy - is just deeply sick.
