IIT Ropar is emerging as a leading Centre of Excellence in advanced Research, Artificial Intelligence Innovation, and Student Entrepreneurship. The Institute’s recent Faculty Achievements include Dr. Shweta Jain, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, receiving the prestigious Google Research Award 2024 with a USD 20,000 unrestricted grant; Dr. Anupam Bandyopadhyay, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, being honoured with the IPS Young Scientist Award 2025; Dr. Soumyajit Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, receiving the Thieme Chemistry Journals Award 2025; and Dr. Durba Pal, Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering, being recognized under “Women in Immunology” by the Indian Immunological Society on the International Day for Women and Girls in Science. The Technology and Innovation Foundation – iHub AWaDH (Agriculture and Water Technology Development Hub) is advancing priorities in Agriculture & Allied Sectors, Human Skilling, Technology Development, and Startup & Entrepreneurship growth. Strengthening Agri-Tech leadership further, @iitrpr has been designated as the Centre of Excellence in AI for Agriculture (Annam AI) under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, with a ₹300 Crore Project integrating AI for enhanced Agricultural productivity and Sustainability. Driving a vibrant Startup ecosystem, the Technology Business Incubator Foundation (TBIF) hosted IIT Ropar’s first E-Summit. A standout TBIF-incubated Startup, an AI-based Recruitment Platform founded by B.Tech students Deepanshu Sharma and Kartik Yadav has secured ₹3.5 Crore in funding. @svembu @TVMohandasPai Thanks for the clarification, Vembuji. I have huge respect for TVMP, but often, he gets carried away with this north south narrative and even GSB within the south!

I want to respond to this because I was the Co-chair of the apex committee that decided the 3 AI Centres of Excellence. The committee itself had plenty of us from the South (probably the majority). Most of us came from the private sector and the Government did not tell us who we should select. We in the committee (again with so many of us from the South and so many from the private sector) did the selection based on a very thorough evaluation of actual projects done. The responsibility for this decision on the AI Centres of Excellence should be with us in the committee and personally with me as Co-chair and I beg people to not inject North-South politics in this 🙏 IISc Bengaluru, IIT Chennai, NIT Calicut, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Mumbai all presented very strong proposals but the ones we selected stood out in the end. The committee was unanimous in this decision. We stand by our judgment.

@svembu @sidhutripathy Haven't heard of sensors from IIT Ropar, IIT Mandi has developed some very good sensors for landslide, soil chemistry, etc and had a really good program to facilitate startups. Would be interesting to understand how Ropar got the nod.

@svembu @sidhutripathy I wish I could have been part of this CoE for Agriculture. There are so many things we are missing in deep tech in Agriculture and this bee sensor doesn't stand out for me. It seems like we are just repeating things.
