I got a lot of reactions, comments, and DMs to my "The WordPress Conference We Need Next" blog post so I decided to turn it into a video, addressing the entire angle of why this is needed. Watch it and let me know what you think! youtube.com/watch?v=qqLXw3…

@jkoussertari I agree with you. Do you rely only on native core blocks, or do you use themes or plugins?

@iamrobertsillo Yes for many years now. IMO it gets way more hate than it deserves. Some of it is likely people holding onto old opinions. It’s a great framework for building design systems once you truly understand it. Responsive controls coming soon in core is going to be a game changer too!

@Maximebj Cool! Sounds very interesting. Do you use any tools to teach them, or do you rely completely on the native core blocks?

@SeanChDavis Initially, I was struggling too, because of obvious reasons, but with recent releases I think it's getting a lot better. The biggest pain for me is the theme.json configuration, but I'm already working on it with a new product I'm developing.

It's not that I can't understand the use cases. It's more so that I don't see strong incentives for any of them. I repeat, no hate for the system. Feel free to help me understand the true value, even if it's scoped. My goal is to revive my enthusiasm if it's justified.

As a former WP theme wrangling enthusiast, it's embarrassing to admit that I still can't wrap my head around FSE. No hate for the system. I just don't understand who it serves. Users wanting a completed theme? Builders wanting a framework? I've struggled with this for years.

@esaia__ Hey, I'm working on two products at the moment. I'll release the first one the coming days. The second one is a bigger project and I'll release it later this month or in August.

@mikemcalister I've known Ollie since day one. Great product. I've only used it a couple of times, though. Out of curiosity, what features do you enjoy the most?

@iamrobertsillo We have many thousands of users using FSE and block themes like Ollie (and Ollie Pro) for building real websites. Some of the biggest agencies are switching over as we speak.

@aaronware @linchpin_agency That's interesting. How has that approach worked out for you so far? Are there still repetitive or frustrating tasks you run into on every project? If so, how are you handling them today?

@iamrobertsillo We do at @linchpin_agency . None of our sites that we build use any sort of builder plugins/UI and haven't for years. Sites we inherit that are using a builder are typically moved away. This has been our policy for maybe 4+ yrs. Also less ACF, CMB2(which we loved) for the past yr

@JamesWelbes I never said that - WordPress is still the biggest player by many, many times, but only building for WordPress still means we're leaving more than 50% of our potential customers on the table.
