I would never want to offend my fellow Lebanese, but there’s really no non-offensive way to put it: every time I see a video of a village in the Upper Metn (my home region), I am humbly reminded that it is, by far, the most beautiful part of the country. 😄 Since partition seems to be in the air these days, I would very happily secede and establish the glorious Emirate of the Upper Metn, so we could finally enjoy the clean air, pine trees, and stone villas in peace and among ourselves. And yes, we would build a wall. A big, beautiful wall. The best wall. People from the Chouf, Aley, Keserwan, and the Bekaa would look at it and say, “Wow, nobody builds walls like the Upper Metn.”

This is so true. Everyone knows that being named after the country next door is way faker than based traditional Levantine names like Jabotinsky, Lefkowitz, Ravinsky, and Arlozerov.

@omar_dddg People still do ara-english? I thought it died down when arabic/rtl support got good enough. I only ever see it in north Africa (colonialism) and in Egypt (not misr if you know what im talking about) for some reason.

Diglossia is a factor in the Arabic speaking world. We have not formalised the grammar or spelling for our spoken dialects and writing with Latin letters and numbers looks sloppy and uncouth.
