I do not want a walkable city. I do not want trains. I do not want busses. I want a car that can take me anywhere I want at any time. I don't want to be dependent on transit schedules. I want to choose who I'm traveling with, rather than going for luck of the draw. I want to be able to control my own climate while traveling. I want to be guaranteed a comfortable seat. I want somewhere to keep my things during a day out instead of having to carry everything with me. I want to buy and take home loads of groceries too big to carry without having to trouble myself with delivery services. I want to go through drive thrus. I want to be halfway home from work and impulsively decide to go to a restaurant on the other side of town and just change direction immediately. I want to drive around a new city to take in more than I could on foot or on a fixed route. I want to do road trips where we make up our journey as we go. I want to explore my own city at will without any particular plan. I want to visit small towns out of reach of even the most expansive proposed public transit systems. Essentially, I want freedom.

@Romy_Holland @sublime_seeker yes, this is it, but with a caveat: people with taste create and preserve the costumes that have historical significance, beauty, and elegance. Refining your taste means you immerse yourself in tasteful things. It hurts them to look at her. Might not be right, but it's true.

i literally don’t understand why everyone hates this woman. this dress is fine and she’s hot af for a 56yo woman. like, what kind of post-menopausal woman has a waist to hip ratio like that? do they hate her bc she tries to look good? is it bc she is rich? or bc she’s happy?

@HiddenYorkshire I can't imagine any interpretation where Lennie is supposed to be a sympathetic character. It's obvious from the beginning he can't control his urges. I think your high school teacher did you a massive disservice.

I've just read Of Mice and Men for the first time since high school and I'm going to be very woke for a moment because my reading of it has changed quite significantly since then. Yes, Lennie is just big and friendly and doesn't know his own strength and wouldn't hurt a fly etc etc but the whole plot - and audience sympathy - hinges on a physically intimidating, mentally disabled man repeatedly grabbing and holding onto women's clothes. Yes, we know he doesn't mean anything by it, he just wants to touch the purty clothing; but the women don't know that, and the audience is conditioned to sympathise with Lennie and not the women who are terrified by him. Curley's Wife doesn't even get a name, and she's a whore with red lipstick anyway. And it's not an isolated incident. Lennie did it at Weeds, which is what got him and George kicked out of there, and he did again to Curley's Wife. Now imagine that you're one of the women suddenly cornered by a hulking creature of a man who grabs you and doesn't let go and tells you how he loves your red dress, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. That's terrifying. That is where my locus of sympathy sits. Of Mice and Men is a complex book, but I find myself increasingly uncomfortable with the way the audience is conditioned to sympathise and associate with Lennie.

I love how women are slowly phasing out the “bra”. No one knows their bra size anymore, we’re all wearing sports bras, bralettes or going braless and it’s amazing.

Mark this: There will be a massive backlash against Ozempic. It's gonna cause extremely brittle bones, and then when we can't import it into the US anymore, people gonna gain weight back. And their restored weight will crush their brittle bones.

@emilykmay These replies prove your point. Men are saying women don't have the strength to do the heavy lifting jobs, whereas we all know women will streamline that shit into the easiest and most efficient way to get things done. Men are stuck on body strength while women will invent a way.

if men stopped doing all the heavy duty, necessary, dirty jobs that make the world run...women would do them. we already know this, it happened in WWII. if women stopped doing the thankless, routine care work that makes the world go round, vulnerable people would be neglected.
