The technical sessions of Day 1 of the ToT at the Wildlife Institute of India began with Dr. Bilal Habib, Nodal Officer, NTCA–WII Tiger Cell, presenting an overview of the All India Tiger Estimation and insights from past cycles. The sessions then progressed into detailed presentations on line transect for prey estimation, using M-STrIPES Ecological mobile app, and habitat plot methods, conducted by senior NTCA–WII Tiger Cell researchers and scientists. 🐅

@supriyasahuias Amazing we have also discovered Brandts Hedgehog near LOC Rajouri district Jammu & Kashmir. This is first report from India.

Many of us may never have seen a Madras Hedgehog, Striped Hyena, Lion-tailed Macaque, or Hump-headed Mahseer. Yet, these unseen and often forgotten species are critical sentinels of our biodiversity and ecology. Silent, elusive, and vanishing , they remind us of the fragile balance of nature. At TN Forest Department we have set up a dedicated Endangered Species Conservation Fund to protect them as announced by the Government of Tamil Nadu. This fund will restore habitats, enable vital scientific research, and bring local communities into the heart of conservation efforts.

First-ever IUCN Red List assessment for the Indian Wolf (Canis lupus pallipes)!
Now listed as Vulnerable (A2ae; C1) — with only 2,877–3,310 mature individuals left in the wild.
One of India’s most enigmatic predators stands on the brink — the time to act is now.
