Like R1, I would not expect all paint colors to be priced the same for R2. Rivian tends to price the rich/premium colors at a higher price point. My target for paint upgrades is $1,000 to $2,000. On the low end I would put Glacier White and on the high end I would put Catalina Cove. Budget accordingly.

@Mattlinn01 @Jones1 Same…..while my Rivian wasn’t the most reliable….my Tesla was the worst. Always at the service center for something and sometimes they had loaners but they didn’t a lot of time due to the model 3 ramp

@Jones1 My first Tesla had 27 service appointments in 24 months.
My second Tesla had 16 service appointments in 24 months, 4 of which required a flatbed.
Don’t think I’m going back to that experience.

@TravisKetchum Exactly. Both systems seem great. I prefer the boxy shape of the Rivian personally but I love bmw’s new design language and applaud BMW for pulling out all the stops for a real competitive product

I went through the iX3 builder and attempted to make it like/like with R2 as much as possible.
It was ~$14k premium to add 104 miles of range, and drop 8 minutes off the 10-80% charge time vs R2.
I'm excited about iX3, but 14k makes a difference in this class.

@TravisKetchum Exactly same! I just a lot of people saying bmw over Rivian. Rivian is behind and won’t sell. They are both great and serve different audiences. I think they will both have problems keeping up with demand…gas prices will help them too

@RivianTrackr I was curious for sure but the BMW is 10k to 15k more than the R2. R2 also is more off road focused so I can actually take it off a trail or drive it on the beach…I can’t do that in the ix3

@Mattlinn01 But for 10k less you can get an R2. Rivian went for a price point that is selling well right now given the model y’s success. I think both vehicles will sell very well as they do different

@RivianTrackr @Michael_L_Rauch @Rivian I don’t get the comparison as well…it’s 15k more than a performance R2. The BMW is a great ev I’m sure but I don’t think they compete against each other. The ix3 is more a competitor for the Volvo ex60 and other high end luxury vehicles . The R2 is more for model y, rav4, etc

@alex_avoigt You do realize that BMWs Neue Klasse battery has a 20% higher energy density than the previous generation and weighs essentially the same as the old battery, right?

The BMW iX3 and iX are examples of how little the company still understands about BEVs.
A very large battery means that in 99.99% of cases, when long distances aren't being driven, an unnecessary amount of weight is being carried around, which is inefficient and expensive.
Since a large battery naturally takes longer to charge, even with fast charging speeds, the supposedly advantageous feature of a long range is worthless, because you simply end up spending more time charging and if you take shorter charging stops you could have been more efficient with a smaller battery.
To everyone claiming they want to drive 1,000 km without a break: studies show that people with such a strong bladder are rare. And if your family is coming along, forget it. Such cases are so rare that it makes no sense to develop a vehicle for them.
Both vehicles are fundamentally flawed in their design and are only suitable for people who, as ICE owners, have been falsely instilled with fear for years that BEVs supposedly don't have enough range or that there aren't enough charging stations—both of which are lies perpetuated by the oil and gas industry.

@TravisKetchum @RivianTrackr @Rivian Yeah I’m fine with them charging with colors but Tesla does 1k for most colors and I think that’s totally fine and maybe 1500 for borealis and Carolina cove since they are so new. 🤷♂️
