Cursor / VSCode users: if you're noticing intermittent slowdowns, I may have the answer. There appear to be two root causes: poor management of rg / rgArm processes and interactions with Crowdstrike Falcon. With a recent update (sometime in 2024), VSCode / Cursor spawn a bunch of rg / rgArm processes. rg is ripgrep, used for recursive search. rg is fast and efficient when used properly, but the implementation appears to be non-traditional. In of itself, this isn't that big of a deal, though it might be a tad annoying and inefficient. What is a big deal is Crowdstrike's response. Falcon is aggressive towards rg / rgArm and jacks up the CPU to monitor these processes. The result is terrible battery life, 90% CPU usage, degraded performance, and random / intermittent performance issues. I would love to hear if anyone is experiencing something similar. VS Code / Cursor are excellent tools, so it would be great to understand more. What can you do? Ignore directories and symlinks in your VS Code / Cursor projects to reduce rg / rgArm processes until a fix is implemented. Example config in comments.

@ydwndr Hybrid approach: Frequently changing filters easily accessible as inline badges. Full list of active filters in sidepanel/popover, where users can toggle whether to also display the inline badge. All state saved via @nuqs47ng, except badge visibility in local storage.

@codeblue87 Loving this feature 🫶 Could you share which methods @arcinternet supports or prefers for identifying a site's header? <header>, .header, .site-header, #header, #site-header, <nav>, .header-wrapper, more?

We’ve made a small but mighty improvement to the ergonomics of Arc today ☝🏻 You can now move the window around using the built-in header of the site you're on

Regardless of whether Instagram was “inspired” internally or externally, I’m glad new alternative socials (and TikTok) are forcing incumbents to re-think and ship. Hope Meta can find further inspiration in @amoamoamo’s “the app will shut itself down now” feature 💙

I'm curious to see how it stacks up against Amo's editor and if they can replicate or at least come close to these beautiful French-made haptics.

@amoamoamo's board editor is outstanding! No mobile canvas editor feels and performs better. The relative layer-reordering in particular works perfectly intuitive. Seems someone at Meta got a preview before Amo launched Nov 19th, as Instagram is now rolling out the same feature.
