This was an amazing conference. @ShamelessPopery gave an amazing talk on the Old Testament roots of the feast of Christ the King. Lawrence Feingold gave an amazing talks on the gifts given to Israel in Romans 9. Matthew Ramage gave an amazing talk on Benedict XVI. @YardenJZ, @AvivaLund, and I spoke about being young Hebrew Catholics. Everyone should really listen to these talks. A lot of people attack @philoscatholic and @SimoneRizkallah based on various rumors. They are faithful Catholics doing good work even if you don’t agree with them on everything. Please give these talks a listen. I directly call out the boomer philosemites in my discussion of the panel so you have to at least watch that.

Faith does not separate the spiritual from the social. It gives Christians the strength to interact with the world and to respond to the needs of others, especially the weakest. What is needed for the salvation of a community is a communal commitment, which integrates the spiritual and moral dimensions of the Gospel in the heart of local institutions and structures, making them instruments for the common good, not places of conflict, self-interest, or sterile struggles. #ApostolicJourney #Cameroon

@suzania I mean, it was obviously when Melkor corrupted the Music of the Ainur and many joined him before Arda was made.

@JasonPaulJohn The Bible and the Greek tragedies used to be hallmarks of Western education. Now, you can be considered “highly educated” without knowing anything about Solomon or Sophocles.

I'm not so sure the Christian world has fully absorbed how particularly illuminating to secular life the Greek tragedies are. Christianity provides the big answer to human strife. The Tragedies show us what this world is and how we behave in the absence of a loving God.

The Greek (and Roman) Canon was replaced wholesale by the Biblical canon. There is an extraordinary amount to learn from pre-Christian antiquity. But I don't think we can ever truly understand their culture. The Bible is the water we swim in as the Greek Canon was prior.

The United States and Europe belong to a civilization that stretches over continents, crossed over oceans, and persisted for thousands of years: from Athens to Rome to America.  Western Civilization must embrace its noble legacy if it is to reverse its decline.

Marco Rubio's Munich Speech was word perfect. The Americans couldn't be clearer: they love Europe and Britain, they see themselves as the keepers of the flame of Western civilisation and they want us to pull our weight. I just hope our leaders listen.

Ten years ago today, we lost a giant of a man in Antonin Scalia. If you’ve never watched or read his son’s funeral homily, take the time to do so. It’s a beautiful reflection on the things that really matter. And a great opening headfake. youtu.be/3TkxCO751o4 usatoday.com/story/news/pol…
