@bf2sentinel1 @TheLastNeocon I've seen an entire house destroyed with the exception of the kitchen counter where a cake in a decorative glass stand stood completely unharmed. Or all but one house destroyed. They almost seem like they have a mind of their own

@ihlbit @TheLastNeocon They also don't respect how chaotic tornadoes are. They can level entire neighborhoods in minutes, but there's stories of them carrying cars for hundreds of feet without harming the occupants.

This shit blew up. Neat

@TheLastNeocon They don't get strong tornadoes like we do. If they did they'd know that a tornado doesn't give a shit what your house is made of, it will destroy it and leave your neighbors house untouched.

The whole American-British dialogue today is really reflective of the massive chasm in our cultures. If this happened entirely in America between a guy in NH, and his friend in TX: NH: "Damn it's fucking hot! it's going to be 95F out today!" TX: "lol, lmao! Down here we call that Brisk!" NH: "lol, yeah, I don't know how you do it, bro. I'm going to go get a cold beer and find some shade" TX: "have one for me!" UK: "Damn it's fucking hot! it's going to be 95F out today!" TX: "lol, lmao! Down here we call that Brisk!" UK (whining): "NO! You don't understand, our houses are built different! I'm going to melt! You Americans are assholes! "

@CyborgPeds Brick will do that. There's a reason people use bricks to make outdoor ovens

Magic UK insulation
D W@upthejunction28

@Prominent_Bryan I find it funny that North Americans are clearly clueless about how UK insulation works .. because trust me dumbass it doesn’t keep the heat out !! It’s designed explicitly to keep it in so as soon as you open a door or window you are in an oven !!

@ktbear7783 @kaitybella We are also talking about people who are complaining about a temperature that most Americans would probably consider room temp.

@ihlbit @kaitybella Went to a brick school in NE Ohio with no AC… it takes several weeks of warm weather to warm the bricks… 1 or 2 days won’t do that 🤷‍♀️

@sapphyreblayze Want people to not die from the heat as much? Cool them down. Don't know what else to tell you. No one can snap their fingers and lower the outside temperature

nothing makes me hate yanks more than their annual round of smugness about european heatwaves. "why don't you just rebuild your entire infrastructure? stupid europeans, it's not even that warm! no, i don't care that people literally die from the heat, just buy ac!🤣"

@chi_quiero What it boils down to is they're just not used to it. It's hotter and more humid other places, but they're used to it or they do something to mediate it

People always laugh when someone says “UK sun feels hotter than abroad”, but honestly… there’s a reason for it 😭 One of the biggest reasons is humidity. UK heat is often really humid, which means sweat doesn’t evaporate properly from your skin. Since sweating is how the body cools itself down, the heat ends up feeling sticky, heavy and uncomfortable. That’s why 26°C in the UK can sometimes feel worse than 35°C in a drier country. Another reason is the way houses are built here. Most UK homes are designed to keep heat in because of the cold winters. Great in December, horrible in summer. Once the sun hits, bedrooms and living rooms start feeling like ovens, especially since air conditioning isn’t common here. There’s also the fact that people in the UK just aren’t as adapted to long periods of heat. In hotter countries, daily life, clothing, buildings and routines are built around warm weather. In the UK, one random heatwave arrives and everyone suddenly forgets how to function 😭 The sunlight itself can also be surprisingly intense. During late spring and summer, the UK gets really long daylight hours, with the sun staying out until 9 or even 10pm. UV levels can still be high even when temperatures don’t look crazy, so you can burn way faster than expected. And finally, UK weather changes so suddenly. One day it’s cloudy and cool, the next day it feels tropical. Your body doesn’t really get time to adjust gradually, which makes the heat feel even more extreme. So no, people aren’t exaggerating when they say “UK heat hits different” 😂

@james_e_b_ We say get an AC because that's what's going to make the house/room cooler. It doesn't matter who has hotter weather or how the homes were built. ATP I think the people so upset about being suggested to get an AC just want to be miserable

The American AC obsessives are obviously annoying but this line of British defensiveness is also silly. There is no native wisdom at play here. British homes were built as cheaply as possible, that's it
🇨🇦TedTEA🇬🇧@CertainTeaa

“iNsUlAtIoN wOrKs BoTh WaYs” yeah & yet somehow countries built for actual heat don’t build houses like the UK. British homes were designed to survive cold, damp winters not 30°C heatwaves with no AC, no shutters, poor airflow, and brick walls that store heat all day like an oven

@JoblessVince Also because it started off with some brit saying "oh there's a heat wave", to which an American said "get an AC" and was met with "you're a stupid American". Like oh it's hot but how dare someone who lives in a hotter place suggest I get an AC. I'll just be miserable about it
