Science and space are cool, and the world is awe-inspiring. Freedom is essential. Writing is life. Retweets not agreement. "I am nefelibata." That is all.

Everyone complaining about 2020 being the Worst Year Evar has got it all wrong. 2020 is the year God turned into the greatest practical joker of all time. Grab some popcorn and laugh right along with Him.

KENOSHA: a man wearing torso knight armor, a home stitched skirt, & a military canteen Sweeps up trash with a broom that is on fire right in front of riot police I can genuinely say I have no idea what’s going on here though Even the police were confused and left him alone

I think you pray that God reached him in a way we can’t perceive. You trust that God is perfectly just and merciful. You know that in His justice your friend’s dad won’t slip through the cracks. Whatever his eternal state is, it will be right, not accidental, and not punitive. You pray for God’s perfect mercy to cover him if it’s possible. 🙏🏻

My brother’s dad just died. He wasn’t a believer in Christ. How do I pray for someone who has passed but didn’t know Christ?

How can you justify reading or creating art when the world is falling apart? C.S. Lewis asked this question in a sermon called "Learning in Wartime," delivered to university students while Germans were dropping bombs on London. His first point is crucial: "The war creates absolutely no new situation; it simply aggravates the permanent situation." The belief that study belongs only to peacetime is a false illusion born of modern comfort. Our greatest thinkers pursued Beauty in times of war. Moreover, our literary tradition itself accepts war as an inescapable truth of reality: The Iliad, Cain and Abel, Romulus and Remus — every founding myth of the Western Tradition wrestles with war, violence, and even fratricide. Lewis reminds us that civilization was not built by scholars in times of peace; rather, it was built by courageous souls who sought virtue in the face of death. Abandoning study leads to grave consequences for our culture: "If you don't read good books, you will read bad ones. If you don't go on thinking rationally, you will think irrationally. If you reject aesthetic satisfactions, you will fall into sensual satisfactions." The fact is, culture is never neutral. If we abandon the pursuit of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness, our civilization ceases to be True, Beautiful, or even Good. Lewis insists the intellectual life is itself a form of resistance: "Good philosophy must exist, if for no other reason, because bad philosophy needs to be answered." Reading then, is not just a leisurely pursuit in peacetime, nor is it an escape from the troubles of the world. It's the very practice that makes civilization beautiful, and makes your own life meaningful and worth living.

@LadyDemosthenes That's fine. I'm telling you that kids don't get that in most high schools. Schools use Google Suite which automatically saves, doesn't require a subscription and allows sharing with teachers and other students while also being tied to their school email.

@LadyDemosthenes I don't like it either. Just telling you the environment from which they're coming. Schools did this for many reasons. Paired with cheap chromebooks and schools don't have lots of money. It allowed schools to be more helpful with managing the tech needs of students w/out means.

Oh trust me it gets worse. I started teaching in 2009. I’ve been teaching the same subject since 2009 but how I teach it has had to be dumb down considerably over the years. My English 101 classes used to be full of conversation and debate and just fun. Now much of it is taken up with explaining parts of speech and sentence structure and how a paragraph works.

This is 100% true. I went from being able to give simple instructions: Save your file under an appropriate title and then upload a copy to class. To now having to tell students HOW to save a file, that they need to rename it (unnamed document is not acceptable), how to FIND the saved file on their devices, and how to upload the file onto the online course. All of this is assuming they realize they have access to Word through their school emails. If they don’t know this I have to give instructions on how to find Word first. If they are using Google Docs I have to explain first that if they have a Gmail they have free access to Google Docs, then I have to explain how to export as a .DOCX file and then go through the motions about saving and uploading… Don’t get me started on trying to explain where to find the TAB key and how to indent at the beginning of each paragraph.

90% of students don’t even know how to open or save a Word document when they come to my class, let alone format text. “Digital native” generation is tech illiterate & Grandma Luddite Heather must teach them the ancient ways

The Fake News media has the story wrong, again. @SpaceX remains a strong and valued partner to the Department of War. The claims in this article are simply not based in reality and do not reflect the close, effective collaboration between our teams.

What moron compares wealth and income taxes? This is so dishonest. The rich pay 40% of the IRS income tax bill.
The New York Times@nytimes

In @nytopinion The four richest Californians paid 0.07% of their wealth in income tax from 2019 to 2025. A trailblazing tax on billionaire wealth could change that, write two economists who advised on the measure. nyti.ms/4fakpQb

@nytimes @nytopinion Read your first sentence. Wealth isn't taxed. Income is taxed. Therefore writing "% of their wealth in income tax" is inherently moronic coming from the Paper of Record.

Justice Thomas blasts the Supreme Court for refusing to hear Florida's lawsuit against California and Washington over licensing undocumented commercial drivers — after a deadly highway crash involving a trucker who 'could not read the road signs.' Thomas, joined by Alito, argued Florida has 'nowhere else to bring' its case because only SCOTUS can hear disputes between states. The court declined anyway.

Jesus never told you not to set your neighbor’s house on fire either. He wasn’t trying to provide a comprehensive list of sins. What heretical, evil way to spin Jesus’ message.

James Talarico: “I trust women to make decisions about their own bodies. I don’t think that’s a place for government. That’s a belief I hold not despite my faith, but because of my faith. Jesus never talks about abortion. The Bible is silent on abortion.”

People still think lunar missions are about flags and footprints. But this is really infrastructure being built in real time: • Robotics • Autonomous systems • Resource extraction • Long-duration habitats • A launch point for deep space missions The Moon is slowly becoming the proving ground for a permanent human presence beyond Earth. 🌕🚀 create a picture for this post
