@zimm3rmann @WilliamShatner >>ever needing to stop for gas
oh noes. a few minutes at best to get hundreds of miles of travel. and available anywhere?
such as burden...
English

@WilliamShatner The average person does not drive more than 100 miles a day. For roadtrips, yes, a gas car is quicker in the stops. But for daily commutes and errands (majority of driving unless you’re constantly roadtripping) an EV keeps you from ever needing to stop for gas.
English

And for the #teslarites who don’t understand 500 miles. Time is money. How long does it take to pump a tank of gas? 4-5 mins versus 30. Early last week I went up to the Yosemite area (about 300 miles.) I got up there, did my thing and got gas (5 mins) and drove back. With a Tesla. It would be drive up (maybe on one charge) charge up 20-30 mins, do my thing. Drive back, stop along the way to recharge (again probably another 20 mins…) That’s too long. 500 would be one recharge so it’s 10 mins gas versus 29-30 mins which I would consider.🤷🏼

@cixliv @TimSweeneyEpic @boztank unfortunately it seems capable people are either suppressed internally, or just refuse to even work for meta at any level of compensation. it must be so frustrating to be the Zuck at times. I doubt Boz cares any which way. he seems to be coasting...
English

@TimSweeneyEpic @boztank Hey Tim, you gotta help Boz ship a product that isn’t complete ass.
English

@boztank you wanna share your performance reviews?
how you been doing VR wise? how many daily or even monthly users you got coming in these days?
I mean actual daily users and not people who just decided to charge their headset and bailed to only maybe come back within 6 months?
English

@wapital3 Wait but when i ask someone if they smell my pit they say no are they lying?? All of them?!😭
English

@wapital3 Not true. If you notice your own smell, it’s often just because it’s unfamiliar to you. People who are really unhygienic usually stop noticing their own scent. And if you’re generally clean, you might be extra sensitive, while others barely notice anything.
English

@IsizahSolomon @wapital3 It takes about half a day to be mostly desensitized to your own smell.
English

@wapital3 People underestimate how quickly they get used to their own scent.
You go nose blind to your own scent.
Others don’t.
English

@iamtopboy_ @wapital3 So sorry. But it’s kinda nice people can be so kind. That’s something, right?
English

@SonarProTrade @unusual_whales I’m pretty sure they only got caught since they were effectively ‘moving hardware in the trunk of a car’
These geniuses were caught on cam using a hairdryer to swap out serial number stickers
English

@unusual_whales You don't move $2.5 billion worth of AI hardware in the trunk of a car. That requires a massive shadow supply chain operating right under the radar. Makes you wonder who else decided to look the other way.
English

@WHcannabisgrow @real_eire @TheQuartering Yeah. They did a Law and Order SVU episode loosely based on Epstein in like 2008.
English

@real_eire @TheQuartering People have been talking about Jeffrey Epstein for over 20 years, he didn't break anything.
English

@mattworkman Even without AI it’s cheaper than ever to make a film. The problem is lack of talent. The last ten years have been a joke for that market. AI isn’t going to save it. It’s only going to produce Idiocracy inspired ‘Ouch my balls’ cinema.
English

people who “hate Gen AI” may not realize that most filmmakers cannot afford a cinema camera, lens, 4x lights, and grip equipment to make a shot that looks 1/10 as good as a 10 cent Gen AI shot
I’m a die hard live action cinematographer in my heart, but I know the math
I’ve also worked in 3D/Games for a long time and it’s similar that most can’t afford the computer hardware and lack access to the training to make again shots that looks 1/100 as good as the sloppiest AI gen image
Consumer and gamer takes on this issue, I ignore. People in production see the state of live action production AND in 3D/VFX business and can also do math
English

@kimmonismus it is bad. you could get similar native imagery, but how would Nvidia then sell you a x50 tier card as a x80 tier with price to match?
English

@tgod34748 not going to pay $200 more for ~$6.48 added to the BOM. sorry
English

@Tyler_McV I hate to break the news, but the average gamer can’t tell the difference when refresh rate is wrong, resolution is wrong, aspect ratio is wrong, graphics fidelity settings are wrong. Produce consistent image across user base? Asking a bit much from users…
English

figured. shit sucks.
how the hell will this tech be able to consistently produce the same image for everyone, temporally stable, in real time?
If video generators can't do that, how the hell will this do it IN REAL TIME?
Everyone is going to see something different, it sucks.
ben@videotechuk_
This is disgusting @Ubisoft @CapcomUSA_
English

@ObviousRises @Pirat_Nation Only be proven right since devs will overly rely on the Nvidia AI crutch like they do with their frame gen and ML supersampling already. We could have much better perf/$ hardware for fair price, but not enough resistance to Nvidia’s GPU/AI monopolies… they need to be broken up
English

@Pirat_Nation N one gets it, this DLSS 5 AI feature is a failure, it looks bad, none of us asked for it, and it does not justify higher graphic card prices, its bad, and poeple like are vilified for saying so, but I will be proven right.

English

@NikTek They’re showing off very early in case their AI business is just a giant bubble. Which it is.
They need to keep gamers on the line overpaying for their joke ‘high end’ and ‘mid range’ GPUs in case the bubble finally pops.
They’re extremely lucky OpenAI bought up RAM for now
English

During DLSS 5 Hands-On Video, YouTube creator Hot Hardware asked Nvidia employees this question about the computational cost of DLSS 5 when you move around in the game and it really caught my eye on how they hesitated on showing any DLSS 5 footage during motion.
Every time that he moved the character, he would turn off DLSS 5 first then move to a different in-game location and then turn it on, or if DLSS 5 was turned on the movement was very slow and controlled.
I know this is still work in progress, but it really begs the question "why wouldn't they show any this?" or "why show DLSS 5 this early?"
I tried freezing some shots when another character is in motion to check if there are any artifacts when DLSS 5 is turned on.
As suspected, I did come across some artifacts with UI elements, character popping out of the UI element and ghosting/artifacts behind the character.
Its still not the best way to judge these small details that you can clearly see if a footage is recorded in-game, but then again its not like Nvidia provided any of them during DLSS 5 marketing campaign.
Whenever this is still going to be present by the time DLSS 5 launches remains to be seen, however as of right now it doesn't look like it will handle fast-paced motion quite well and I don't know how well this "controlled AI-generated" rendering will scale to weaker GPUs in the RTX 50 series

English

@AutismCapital Nvidia is selling lesser hardware for more since they have the AI crutch
It’s pretty gross how they tier their cards now

English

Digital Foundry was super excited about the DLSS 5 announcement (because it was awesome) so they published a "FIRST LOOK" showing it off and praising it. Then the angry anti-AI mob came for them and ripped them apart and they got bullied into backpedalling.
"We should have waited before posting our first round of coverage. We should have waited to see reactions from the audience."
Translation: "We should have waited to see what the consensus mob opinion was before we posted our own individual thoughts."
This is the reason why games suck these days. The mob bullies people into groupthink. People get so scared of giving their take they wait until the "Consensus approved opinion™️" is formed before they speak.
Nobody wants to risk having the first/independent thought and risk being yelled at by the angry mob.
It's super unfortunate, and the backpedalling here makes it worse because it signals cowardice and the majority of the mob doesn't care anyways, they'll find a new thing to hate.
