@Donewithe90s @ChefGruel He also doesn’t advertise that he gives away meals to hungry people and the military on his menu. What’s your point?

@Donewithe90s @ChefGruel 1) @chefgruel is an amazingly generous guy. 2) he said he has a baked potato and side salad combo for this purpose. The purpose is not upcharging someone having trouble affording food. I have no doubt that Calico has a button on the register that combos these items discreetly

@TimCampbell30 @ASCREEN07 @mitchellchase It also doesn’t matter if it’s a parable or not, because parables always happen in the realm of actual reality. Jesus doesn’t make up details or introduce novel ideas like space travel because they would detract from the point of the lesson.

Show of hands: who believes Jesus, after his death on the cross, descended to the realm of the dead to proclaim his victory?

@ASCREEN07 @mitchellchase Re: its a parable - yes. However all parables (though works of fiction) are described in matters of reality. You never hear parables that contradiction the nature of actual reality ( for example “a certain man was flying his dog one day”)

The rich man and Lazarus is a parable. In that parable, the rich man is in hell and is told by father Abraham (God) that an impassable gulf exists, in which is no cross traffic betwixt. (Lk16:26) Another important biblical principle here is Mark 12:26,27; God is the God of the living. All the patriarchs and every believer is alive with God in Christ, the “Lamb slain from the foundation of the world”, in heaven. Lazarus, even in the parable (Lk 16), is in heaven.

@ASCREEN07 @mitchellchase The dead patriarchs looked forward to Christ and believed on Him when he announced the gospel to all the dead (1 Peter 3:19) They are justified by faith the same as we are.

@ASCREEN07 @mitchellchase Or… here me out. Abraham Bosom is a place in Sheol where the righteous were kept until Christ’s sacrifice, and the parable accurately depicts the pre-resurrection reality of the afterlife, which also correlates to Peter’s teaching about Christ’s descent.

@ASCREEN07 @mitchellchase 2 Corinthians 5:8 would describe the believer’s life after death only after Christ’s victory. Prior to that the rich man and Lazarus is pretty helpful here.

@mitchellchase Who’d He proclaim victory to? Could not be believers who have died - they are alive and are in heaven (Jh 11:25,26; 2 Cor 5:8; Isa 38:19). And dead unbelievers go to a place of silence to await judgement. They can’t hear truth nor speak it (Isa 38:18; Ps 115-17).

@rushicrypto I homeschool my four kids and pay $9k/year in property taxes. There’s potholes everywhere and every time an ambulance gets called anywhere they bring a $1,500 bill with them. Try again.

I’m very confused about the number of people who think “property tax” is a sales tax on you home rather than taxes to pay for public services you use every day. “I paid off my home why do i still pay property taxes?!?!?” Oh, did you also stop using the roads and libraries and sidewalks and parks? Not worried about fires anymore?

I grew up pre-internet. Many summers as a kid all you had left to do was lay outside and stare at the clouds. You can only ride bikes for so long and the parents said stay outside until dinner. I know what clouds look like. These abominations in the sky are something else.

@jaysonyork I get that. And to an extent I agree. But our Couch is 2300 people. There’s no way our pastors know the names of everyone. Though they know the key people who are there each Sunday serving.

Unpopular pastoral opinion #9? A pastor should be available to chat with his congregation often, he should know the name of the people in his church, he should visit them, spend time with them, and know their lives. Pastors who don’t aren’t pastors, they are public speakers

@OC_Scanner Some guy has predicted a 7.0+ quake in the Santa Monica Bay sometime between March 18-23. Because why would SoCal miss out on all the wacky weather phenomenon? Maybe they’re checking to see if the sirens still work? 🤷‍♀️

I used to be entirely in the camp that said you should kick your kids out at 18 and force them to live independently and make their own way in the world. I don’t feel that way at all anymore. I want all my kids to live with us until they get married. Even after they’re married, if they want to live on our property, or close by, my wife and I would love that. The important thing is to teach your kids responsibility, which we’re doing. They need to contribute and help around the house, which all of our kids do from a very young age. Provided you aren’t raising ungrateful useless moochers, why kick them out? Why drive them away from your family home? I don’t see the point in it anymore. I actually like my kids and like being around them. Maybe they’ll all end up scattered to the wind. But I’d prefer to keep the family together. Why wouldn’t I?

The quality of work that went into the “translation” known as The Passion Translation is so lacking that they misspelled “Hebrews” on the table of contents for the sample they released on kindle many years ago.

Brian Simmons appears to be lying. This is a real specific example and it's a big deal because it goes to the credibility of his translation as well as his own character. This is the author of The Passion Translation of the Bible (it's not good).

@MikeWingerii When they released a sample of this “translation” years ago - they misspelled “Hebrews” as “Herbews” in the table of contents. I still have it in my Kindle app. If you can’t translate the English word “Hebrews” into the English word “Hebrews” well…
