Yes, the United States has the most progressive tax system in the world. The top 1% pay 40% of taxes, the bottom 50% pay 3% of taxes. We can make it even more progressive by zeroing out taxes on the bottom half. It’s a small amount of the total tax revenue but very meaningful to people in this group.

Your ‘sovereignty’ exists only because the US has, for now, not seen Canada as a security threat. This is why Canada, starting in the 1940s, smartly integrated itself with US security capabilities. They knew they needed to be, and assert themselves as, not a liability.
You’re free to be smug and arrogant all you want, but you don’t actually have a say here. Either Canada stops trying to turn itself into a security liability and fields a credible and capable military again, or Canada can cease to exist as a ‘sovereign’ nation when it becomes a major security risk for the US.
You’re a small nation and need to remember to act as one.

The Canadian military has been effectively destroyed by its own government. Hitting even 2% on paper isn’t remotely enough to rebuild it, let alone fix the political problems a decade of Trudeau’s incompetence has wrecked on it.
At this point, Canada would be better off disbanding its military completely and turning over all defense to the US. Canada has no political will to defend itself.
