rant, sorry: AuDHD here and while undiagnosed if went hard on school while i was getting my bachelors and work my health suffered, if i took the time to cook, my school work or job performance suffered, and often ended up just burning out like a dying star and not doing either. anytime i was almost forcibly brought by friends and family to inpatient was during these times where I was trying to balance everything. I thought i was a failure because no matter what I did i couldn't ever manage it for long, and felt like I was lazy etc To this day, after being diagnosed trying to have a perfect work/life balance is extremely difficult, not to mention we can throw new hormonal issues to manage on top of that. However, im managing it the best I ever have with the support of the love of my life when I am struggling. These conversations happen often in the autism space with level 1 autistic folks. We are so disabled in specific ways unique to us but cannon to autism, but our masking ability and the fact that many of us are late diagnosed, we learned to grin and bear it to an extent, but are genuinely suffering often both mentally and physically. We don't get supports and are often dismissed as fine but neurotic. Autistic people are 3x-7x more likely to kill themselves, and this idea that we're not disabled enough is a part of that. As far as ADHD goes, I imagine it is similar, notably high rates compared to able bodied, neurotypical adults. The world is not set up for people with disabilities, both visible and invisible. Reasonable accommodations denied, the soceital protections in the US for disability discrimination only work if you're wealthy enough and have enough time to pursue a discrimination case against a business, people with disabilities like adhd and autism get discrimnated against in the workplace regularly, and instead of accommodating an existing worker to be their best self, businesses would rather spend thousands on sifting through new applicants for someone whos "less to deal with" im so tired of the narrative that if ur doing the bare minimum ur fine enough for xyz. if i didnt go to school or work guess what? i wouldnt be able to have housing or healthcare and id fucking die. many disabled people are pushing through the bare minimum to not *fucking die*

Yeah so when I was undiagnosed, I got my bachelor’s degree while holding down a job (and some side hustles) and managed to graduate a semester early. I also wound up in the hospital because after school and work, I couldn’t function enough to cook. I was so malnourished that my stomach just stopped working lol

If you have a job or you’ve gone to school, I’m pleased to report that you have sufficient “executive function” to cook a simple meal.

my therapist said “people who struggle with anxiety & depression can’t remember a lot, bc they're too busy focusing on how to get through each moment so they don t actually experience what is happening to them, causing them to not form the memory they were supposed to” felt that.

@DrGenevieve73 @drjenwolkin I not been allowed to see a doctor for over a decade - except of course when they got me under Mental Health Act for 12 months. They drugged me with antipsychotics in order to stop my poetry telling the truth about living in poverty in this neo-liberal cult nightmare
