The Notwithstanding Clause is integral to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and an unassailable provincial constitutional right.
Alberta Premier Peter Lougheed insisted it be included to protect the autonomy of provinces to uphold the values and priorities of the people they represent from decisions of activist courts.
In Alberta, we have used it carefully and lawfully to stand up for the parental right to be involved in their children’s lives, to protect children so they can make important health decisions as adults, to ensure fairness in sport, and to keep students learning in the classroom.
We are extremely disappointed that Minister Sean Fraser would risk national unity and a foundational principle of our constitution by attempting to attack the use of the notwithstanding clause by sovereign provincial governments.
It's been a tough few days since being dropped as the 5th for @TeamBradJacobs for @TardiParty 😢
It was a lifelong dream to represent 🇨🇦 at the #Olympics
I'm glad I have a strong support team. It really stings.
An American who just received a $30,689 bill for giving birth in the hospital 🤯🤯🤯
All three of our kids were born in Canada and all we paid for was parking.
How the heck is a young family or single parent going to pay off 30 THOUSAND dollars?
Glad I live in 🇨🇦

Marco Mendicino, who had originally planned to return to Toronto following his tenure as an MP and Minister, agreed to serve as my initial Chief of Staff during the intense period following the Liberal leadership race, during the federal election, and the subsequent transition to government. His support has been vital during that period.
As we prepare for the Throne Speech, I have asked Mr. Mendicino to stay into the summer in order to support the launch of the government’s mandate in Parliament and to lead the transition of the PMO on my behalf. I am grateful that he has agreed to do so.
I wish to thank Mr. Mendicino for his tireless work, commitment and dedicated service to all Canadians.
@Qantas it is incredible that you keep sending me personal information regarding Jack Brown after being advised months ago. You lack of concern is astonishing. Please take steps immediately
@theJagmeetSingh If you were serious you would press the speaker (and the dipshit) to recall Parliament and do it now. We are all counting the days, but you have a different count for a different reason.
Justin Trudeau failed in the biggest job a Prime Minister has: to work for people, not the powerful.
The NDP will vote to bring this government down, and give Canadians a chance to vote for a government who will work for them.
