Everything that makes us sound and attractive men in practice is condemned in theory by modern men, and especially clergy. I hear the following quite frequently. “Rook, I don’t know what it is, but there is something right about you.” Yet, the same people who offer such praise would condemn me, fire me, and excommunicate me if I explained the theoretical foundations of my actions.

@BRAVEpastorjeff @BasedPastorTrav @malachiobrien Why it's so important to learn how to gather based on the clear instructions Paul gives us about each one having and contributing every time we gather. Little growth happens if all your gatherings are just you passively listening to a monologue each week.

If you’ve been a Christian for years and no one is growing because of you… That’s a problem. You’re not called to consume. You’re called to multiply.

@theistinthought Because of the Big Sort people from the hinterlands are dumb and poor. Brain drain is real. On top of that churches are mostly a grift-career for the pastor and you need a certain population density to make the numbers work. Rural churches with 100 people don’t max out your 401k.

Contemporary church plants mostly seem to revolve around urban settings; they want to reach cities and urban people with the Gospel more than anyone. Is this a racial bias or class bias or both? I’ve never understood why suburbanites are seen as sort of meh in these missions.

@grayzoneintel How much latency can you accept? Get creative with Starlink guerilla mounted outside and then bounce off a couple WiFi access points to get it inside

This is unbelievable. We will be at the Republican Party of Texas convention in June, and paid $2,495 for a booth to demo our new AI threat intelligence tools. I'm fine with that cost. But a third party vendor is charging $3,495 for a dedicated 3Mbps internet line for three days. Over a thousand bucks a day for internet at the convention. A dedicated 20Mbps runs over $15k with a discount and up to $23k if you purchase day-of. Total ripoff.

One problem we have in the West is men planting churches. Yep, we are saturated. There are plenty of open pews. 90% of the time you should be starting a fraternal organization instead. These have all but collapsed in the past century.

Not sure where this “new Christian right” Mad Men era, smoking like it’s cool, telling women to stay in the kitchen movement came from but can we all take a vote and make it go away?

@jchasedavis Its would actually make pastors jobs easier in a way but they all idolize preaching just like the pharisees who wore long robes and expected the place of honor.

Pastors will confidently sermonize on politics in ways they’d never sermonize on plumbing, insurance, or finance. Why does theological training apparently confer expertise on tax policy and foreign affairs?

I think 10% of pastors know they are unbiblical and would quit but they have no other skills or prospects. It definitely is a trap. Reinventing one self later in life is no small task.
Driver —XAG@DriverXag

@SacrdCowTipping @creation247 Even if they do— pastors are a bit trapped. They don’t know what else to do. That would be a scary place. And people are so invested in them, some would lean on them to just keep the status quo.

@jackprophesy @rob_avis_ramble The idea that two people in an early stage relationship are having sex is "degen" and somehow bars you from having kids at some point is why I'm over this whole space

The only way I see the denormalization of premarital sex becoming a reality is if the divorce rate severely declines, no-fault divorce is abolished, and marriage at scale is seen as a place where sex thrives rather than dies. The main problems as I see them are: An increasing number of men have no interest in marriage due to the risk of ending up in a low-sex situation with a bitch of a fat wife, based on what they see in too many existing marriages. But those men still like sex as much as any other man, so sex outside of marriage is their only option. Another problem is that even men willing to consider marriage know it’s risky and don’t want to enter it blindly without knowing if sex will be enjoyable with the chick they are considering for marriage on day one, let alone whether it will still be enjoyable with her on day 7,300. Finally, there is no shortage of unmarried women who are more than willing to have sex with unmarried or married men - although in some cases even married women are having sex with everyone but the husband they are married to. -R

Fun question: You're the head of a Christian construction company. Can you take a contract to build a strip club? Arguably, you're complicit in establishing an inherently immoral business.

In 1991 Bethlehem released big finding that all remarriage while spouse is alive is adultery. So to this day they won’t remarry people— but are fine when adulterous remarried people show up. Nice loophole. Piper knew it was whoredom but went along with it anyway, spirit of the age. losing his son was the judgement.

Many people aren’t ready to hear it, but Piper (et al) absolutely muffed the punt on biblical sexuality. Many of the chickens are coming home to roost for complementarianism and it ain’t pretty.
