@mroller98 At least in the past it was a test side that won games. Curran is wasted down the order, he’s a batting all rounder now but England can never understand that. Get Root opening then put Curran up and pick an actual opening bowler. Nonexistent balance to that side!

@dan_brigham @ohlookitswill_ Captains defo have enough time to look at fields and still get at least close to 90 overs, especially with the extra half hour. That isn’t why they don’t reach allocation. No one can doubt the quality in this series but the pissing around has been next level

@jakeyp101 @ohlookitswill_ There’s 2 strands to this #forme. There’s slowing play down for the nonsense reasons I mentioned above. And then there’s captains having the time to readjust fields throughout an over, which I think adds to the spectacle and improves the quality of the contest.

Going to assume everyone who gets absolute furious when teams don’t bowl an arbitrary number of overs in a day, and think it has anything to do with the quality of cricket on display, are going to be delighted with this!

@dan_brigham @ohlookitswill_ It’s never been a rush to get through 90 in a day. They piss around so much now, umpires included, 90 overs or close to hasn’t devalued the game in the past. You can’t say they take the piss on one hand and say quality needs to be high on the other

@ohlookitswill_ Impromptu drinks breaks, players getting a massage, umpires choosing a new ball like they can’t decide on which sandwich to have for lunch all take the piss and are a bad look for the game. But I always want the overs bowled in a day to be of high quality, not rushed through.

@nickcricket @ohlookitswill_ That hasn’t really worked though, replacing Cook and Strauss has been so hard with that approach. Duckett was middle order for Notts if I remember rightly. They clearly like Crawley for the ashes on them decks so just think they’ll stick with him

@willis_macp @ISIBWTBF Problem is they had no idea this would work. In fact it was more likely not to work. They were bailed out by his talent, rather than them putting him in a position to thrive. Which is the wrong way round. They were willing to risk him to protect others.

After two Tests of Jacob Bethell, think we’ve been asking the wrong question. Not “why have England picked a bloke at 3 who has never batted in the top order for his county?” but “why has this bloke never batted in the top order for his county?”
