Evolving from a mono-product to multi-product offering causes a messaging nightmare for companies. When I was at Nextiva, it evolved from VoIP to Unified Communications. The problem is they wanted to stop calling themselves a VoIP system - but it drove 90% of customers.

You can run an entire business on Google Drive + free version of Trello or Asana. All you need is basic Kanban board. The hype of tools like Notion, Airtable and other so called "productivity" apps just slow most people down. ClickUp is an uglier, clunkier version of Monday. 🤷‍♂️

Traditional CMO vs. Modern CMO - What comes to mind?

@techmktr @gaetano_nyc Agree with Ken. Traditional v Modern seems ageist. Many of these traditional CMOs grew multi billion dollar brands. Casting wide spread dispersion on them ignores the strategy that goes behind a solid GTM plan.

@gaetano_nyc I think "Traditional" and "Modern" are pointless. I think that an effective marketing mindset includes both a strong foundation in basic marketing principles as well as a functional familiarity - if not outright fluency - in current tech and behavioral trends.

@aprildunford Great example. Been thinking about why taxi companies haven’t used driver safety and having actual employees as a counter positioning to Uber and Lyft. Right now they get hammered on price and convenience.
