This is nuts. Where does New York office rent stack up compared to the rest of the world? Is it the top? If not, what is the top in USDs on a psf basis

I've used Claude Code to build 20+ projects in the last 6 months. Thousands of new users across them. And I've never written a single line of code. I just dropped a 24-min video with my top 10 tips for non-developers — the exact playbook I use every day to run multiple AI agents that handle work that used to take me a full week. This is the best beginner guide to learning and building with Claude Code out right now. Every tutorial I found assumes you're a developer. This one doesn't. I cover everything from first install to running multi-agent workflows — with live demos and real examples for every single tip. How I set up new projects, how I got Claude to match my writing style, how I automate repeatable workflows with one command, and how I run multiple agents working on different tasks at the same time. I also built a full resource repo to go alongside the video — curated video tutorials, the best skill libraries, plugin directories, MCP server guides, written docs, community links, and a starter CLAUDE.md template you can copy-paste into your first project today. Comment "GUIDE" and I'll send you the full guide with everything you need to learn Claude Code! (make sure we're connected so I can DM you)

@ebottcher I live in your district. If the city paid $31m to kick out the tenant we should get our moneys worth and build as high as humanly possible. This is manhattan. We have skyscrapers and need housing. It’s not out of scale!!!

I strongly believe in the need to build more housing in all neighborhoods, but a height of 600 feet (60 stories) is obviously out of scale for the Meatpacking District. I have asked the city to pause releasing this RFP and instead issue one with a more appropriate height.

California YIMBY is working to allow applicants to hire third-party licensed permit reviewers and inspectors when cities fail to process projects in a timely manner. It would be helpful if developers report these issues to their state assemblymembers and senators.
mehruss jon ahi@mehruss

@SukritGanesh @mnolangray there's no checks and balances post-entitlement. city officials can say/do anything they want and there are no housing laws to protect developers. it's all discretionary. they can withhold occupancy, delay your inspections, not release your bond and require additional items...

@bobbyfijan Why does this require the driveway to go all the way thru? Does this place not allow it to just have rear access?

Judge Engoron's decision denying the state's motion to dismiss the congestion pricing lawsuits has been published. (PDF: iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDoc…) He seems very skeptical of the state's claims and wants an administrative record regarding her decision. Next answers due 10/15.

@bobbyfijan Why can’t this just be called a studio with a den and the den be enclosed? What in NYC law specifically prohibits that as long as you don’t market it as a 1 bedroom?

NYC requirements to allow for a single stair building: - Max 6 floors (can add mezzanine) - Max 2000 sqf floor plate Here's our building (+floorplan) which is practically ~the biggest single stair building possible.

The Federal Riot Reinsurance Act of 1968 caused insurers to look the other way when owners torched their buildings for insurance payouts, subsidizing the arson of thousands of homes in Cleveland in the 1970s

Two mayors, two govs, two MTA chairs and god knows how many budgets — proud of the stories on billion dollar stations, unequal COVID and mpox vaccine access, kids left in lead-tainted apartments, and unsafe shelters. It’s been a good run. Got laid off. Will be at the bar.

But what do you do with a third bedroom, what windowless space do you pair with it? Another bathroom adds a lot of construction cost without improving the rent much (a third bathroom adds nowhere near as much utility as the second – for a family it’s almost worthless). A huge…

2BR is max you can do for in-line unit in double-loaded corridor building with any efficiency. After that, ratio of windowless (kitchen, bathrooms) to windowed (living/bedrooms) space gets out of whack and you have to throw in huge closets and 3rd bathrooms with low rent psf

The biggest problem with the retail space is that it's nowhere. There's a much bigger and nicer actual mall across the street, and the pedestrian/rider flow through Fulton St. is largely floors below the retail space. It's not on the way and there's no real flow by the stores.

As @upzonenj notes, Fulton St. is low-key one of the worst stations in the city in terms of usability and this mess of a station was a money pit of 9/11 recovery money. The retail spots are going to be empty, not that they were ever a draw in the first place. Rethink it.
Upzone New Jersey 🏗️@upzonenj

Westfield Properties is in serious trouble, so this might just be indicative of that, but I doubt this generates the doom loop narratives that their SF mall closings did. (Fulton Center also really sucks, which is the MTA's/Cuomo's fault.) bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
