My storage facility is only staffed in-person 10 hours a week. Last month I installed a ring doorbell that my team can answer remotely. Have rented 1 unit a week since it went up from people who don't call, or visit the website. They just show up and ring the bell.

Spent most of a call w/ equity walking thru a condition of approvals for one of my deals to remove any 🐢 we may find on site. They were hyper-focused because on another deal of theirs, they found endangered 🦎 and had to buy a separate property in that town for $6m (!) to relocate them to 😳 This industry is truly insane.

Is there anything that government agencies like more than creating acronyms for new initiatives and departments? 🤣

HAPPENING NOW: We're live with @NYCMayor to talk the Streamlining Procedures to Expedite Equitable Development (“SPEED”) report, a sweeping set of reforms to deliver affordable housing faster across New York City. MUCH more to come 👀

Couldn’t sleep. Decided to get in the cybertruck and go DoorDash in the suburbs. 3 orders. 2 for whataburger and 1 for JITB. Made $18 in 43 mins. Not bad. The highlight? Bringing food to a former Cowboy and one of the greatest Bama WRs of all time. In my Bama shirt, too! RTR

@PatCarino We spent a lot of money a few years ago relocating turtles. We also then made a bee farm on the same property for tax purposes 🤷

I agree. Starting a business probably means you’re spending 90% of your time on things you really don't want to do, and 10% on things you do, and you have to work extremely hard for a long time to start shifting that ratio. I'm probably 20% to 30% on things I love and 70% - 80% on things I don't after a decade. Hopefully in another decade I can be at 50%

I don't think anyone should start a company to "control their time." You will have zero time. You will have more time if you worked for someone else. ..And if you are going to spend your whole life on something, at least get insanely rich or change the world or your industry.
Elizabeth Yin 💛@dunkhippo33

A lot of people fixate on money as the reason to start a business. But a bigger reason should be about controlling your time. As a founder, you can take off in the middle of the day to coach your kid soccer or do something fun when most of the rest of the world cannot. And then you can come back to it at 10pm or 2am and there's no hassle.

ICSC hack I’m stealing from a buddy. Take whatever AI platform you use. Upload the floor map of the show. Tell it your business, your goals, your existing meeting schedule. (probably already knows) Let it build your agenda. Who to see, where they are, when to go. You’ll cover more ground in less time.

@otter401 It’s wooded and we don’t own it yet. We will need to do the survey and then if we don’t find anything immediately fence it off. Pray for me

@PatCarino What I hear is that you get a qualified biologist to do an endangered species survey on the property. Assuming no critters are discovered you find a guy with a tractor and disc the soil every three months until project ground breaking. That's what I hear at least.

@PatCarino We just relocated 14 gopher tortoises on a site. For what the permit/sanctuary fees cost, I offered to go relocate them myself. Alas, they didn't take me up on it.
