@cka2nd2 @SocDoneLeft Rep Omar just came out to Jersey City this weekend to campaign for Mussab Ali for mayor. Jersey City mayoral election is nonpartisan but there is a DSA candidate running for councilman and I don't think he got an endorsement because he is not on Ali's ticket

@SocDoneLeft I'd rather see her and DSA make a big push in rural America in 2026. Recruit and run candidates (independents, included) for school board, city council, county legislature, state leg, statewide offices, US House of Reps and US Senate. Then maybe she becomes Speaker of the House.

@mehdirhasan Most state Democratic parties have a rule that if you are running against an incumbent, you are not allowed to use the voter database systems that the state party has to run your election. It’s a huge hamper on any election that wants to challenge an incumbent.

Maybe for NY. But after living in NY, I was shocked by how early everything closes in Boston. I can only remember 1 coffee chain open until 11PM. After that only the occasional 24hr diner; not what I was expecting given the student population. Though at least now I think that's partly a consequence of covid.

I worked on a safety study to document existing conditions and make recommendations. I used the word "hostile" several times to describe walking conditions. The client instructed the firm I worked for to remove "hostile" b/c it suggested they were to blame for dangers. 🧵

I hate to see old parish churches close, but it’s so much better when they’re re-used to create more housing rather than torn down. Jersey City is pretty good about this adaptive reuse. At least four or five former churches are now home to condos and apartments downtown.

UPDATE: The Philadelphia Historical Commission just approved the proposed St. Laurentius Church Monument (with staff to review final plaque wording). We could've had a cool adaptive re-use project, but instead we'll just have a scaled-down monument. Thanks NIMBYs!

A pastor who knew the family reportedly recognized Tyler from photos or video of the suspect, contacted the father. The father turned his son in. Tyler graduated high school with a 4.0 and had almost a perfect score on his ACT. Can't imagine what Tyler's family is going through.

Charlie Kirk was scheduled to debate a progressive influencer, Hasan Piker, at Dartmouth College on Sept. 25. On his Twitch live stream, Piker reacted to the news with horror, urging some of his followers to stop making jokes about the shooting, and he expressed fear that he could be similarly targeted. “This is a terrifying incident,” Piker said. “The reverberation of people seeking out vengeance in the aftermath of this violent, abhorrent incident is going to be genuinely worrisome.”
