@Sportingmarie @ingridmileyRTE Marie tbh I’m not interested in X arguments , but to be clear , the State would have to find an additional €20 billion every single year in care hours for our most vulnerable citizens if there were no family carers . Not a made up figure .
English

Listening to #liveline re 70 y/o woman caring for totally dependent 46 y/o wheel chair bound daughter whose carer’s allowance was halved when she received her state pension (an entitlement). Carers are the only social welfare recipients who SAVE the state money - yet penalised?!
English

@Sportingmarie @ingridmileyRTE Marie , I would argue that Carers save the State a lot of money ( €20 billion per year ) and the application is rigorous and care needs required to be significant if granted . Care given to our most vulnerable with love and dedication should be recognised and valued in my view.
English

@janejohnstone4 @ingridmileyRTE Carers allowance cost alot of money. There are different care needs. Are you saying every single of the 100k Carers allowance recipients five 24/7 care? They don't. Carers allowance is an income support dor those who need it. Not a wage for the work you do
English

@Sportingmarie @ingridmileyRTE Carers save the State €20 billion every year with no statutory rights to even one day off or to retire when aging and work 247 /365 what we need are Rights and also widows pension will never replace the love and dedication of my sons Dad. Lump sum more than worked for.
English

@janejohnstone4 @ingridmileyRTE But that's because you get widow's pension. I admire what you do but you have to admit that the amount carers get in the last few years had increased. 1850 respite a
Care grant. All the lump sums.

"There are thousands of carers out there who get nothing for the care that they give their loved one and it's so wrong, it's very demeaning. You just feel so unvalued." Family carer Niamh Ryan supporting the abolition of the means test on @LatedebateRTE. 🔗rte.ie/radio/radio1/c…

‘A win for mothers and motherhood’? We're still at the stage where McDowell, Heasman, and a scatter of other men feel entitled to explain what's best for women in Ireland. independent.ie/irish-news/pol…

@60_sandy We are a family and the ref was about family and care , my sons are entirely dependent on me for their care , that’s what I wanted recognition of and for the State to work with us rather than against us . Personally , I just don’t engage with threads re carers vs Disabilty

@janejohnstone4 Hi Jane, This is what the lady who is disabled had to say to Catherine Cox about Family Carers
English

Great to see this lady with a disability calling out Catherine Cox and Family Carers Ireland live on TV for collusion with the government for a yes vote to the detriment of those needing care. Family carers should hang their heads in shame #Referendum2024 #CareRef #rte

English

@60_sandy Also can you with respect provide details on what care supports were stopped by FCI ? They have been an immense support to my family and many , many families I know throughout the country . I just think it’s important to acknowledge that .
English

@janejohnstone4 I'm totally sympathetic to your situation but this effort to Strive which was the card the government wanted to use in the future to reduce care and recognition is unacceptable. Family carers also withdrew home care help this week around the country and not a word about it.

One thing that strikes me about the #CareRef is that all sides of the debate care about care. As a society and as a state, there is widespread recognition that we need to do more to support those who give and receive care. The big question is how to achieve that in this ref. 🧵

Wording for Care Referendum would have real effects, says AG in unpublished advice
irishtimes.com/politics/2024/…
Senator Pauline O'Reilly@paulinegalway
Leaked AG’s advice confirms what the #VoteYesYes campaign has been saying all along: that a YesYes vote will oblige the State to provide more care or face the courts.

@id_dad @McNiffecent @DaveL2007 @TomClonan @AccessForAll7 @DisabilityFed @GarNob As we all do guys , we all make decisions based on what we believe is best for our families but we may not always make the same decisions. Regardless of the outcome of the referendum, we will all undoubtedly have endless battles ahead so the let there be healing ❤️🩹 and unity
English

@McNiffecent @DaveL2007 @TomClonan @AccessForAll7 @DisabilityFed @GarNob I've volunteered to join the Membership Committee which might better help me to understand how that could happen.
Probably won't get the chance now, as I think Board And Mgt are a tiny bit irked by my Twitter "I vote No" post, which went a bit off the rails.
English

I'm a Board Member of Family Carers Ireland. (Albeit only 1 yr in).
There was No discussion about Referendum.
I do Not support the wording or outcome of proposed amendment 42B.
